I think you made the right choice. They may have won the battle, but they didn't win the war. Sometimes you have to know when to stand down, especially when your family is being threatened.
BTW, I've contemplated putting fully armored doors on my H1.
Though here in PA, it's not a problem, but in Mass... UGH.
