Because A.M. General & Kaiser came up with the Original GPWV "Jeep" for short back in the forties. So really they both come from the same design DNA, Just coprate buy out and name changes are the real only difference. Chrysler found that out the hard way when the tried to sue Hummer over the seven slot grille design.

Agree with the history,, but why wouldn't they give the Humvee a signature all of it's own & not follow the 7 slot grille. They should of of used a 7 slot
horizontal grille & then Humvee would of been it's own creation & not look like a Jeep from the front.
