A popping or tapping noise is usually a bad ball joint... I know, I'm having mine done next week
My truck has 70k (and change) miles and the joints were bad when I bought it although they were probably making that noise around 65k. How many miles are on your truck? Big aftermarket tires would speed the wear on the joints too.
