The torsion bar acts like the coil spring on most independent front ends. If you "lower" the other side, you are in effect lowering the spring rate.
Making changes to the torsion bars are going to effect the ride and handling to one degree or the other and I don't think you can simply replace it with a torsion bar from another model vehicle since it wasn't designed for that vehicle.
