If you are right and they mistakenly placed the boot on your car, then they have deprived you of the use of your property for no lawfull reason and you should not pay for the destroyed boot. It is akin to someone building a fence on your property--you have every right to remove it with no liability. One caveat--read the parking space agreement to see if it alters your rights. Keep in mind that schools can deprive you of some, but not all, rights simply because it is school property. Disclaimer- I may not know what the heck I am talking about but it sounds pretty good,Huh.
