SledgeHummer, thank you for pointing out the exact location. So it seems the air filter is drawing upon outside colder air for its feed, SO, how come the K&N etc give an additional 14/15 HP? Is it the flow direction or shorter distance?
Still looking for comments about changing the DECO black top grill to some type of cold air intake (in the future) I know U have to cut into the hood around the underhood reinforcements and fab a bunch of stuff and then U would loose the H1,H2,H3 lookalikes... BUT it is an interesting idea (air intake and hot air exhaust on top of hood)
truck, its kinda like leaving the keys on the floor. MayB i'l find a cool adapter so 2 add it to my keyring (gona think upon that for awile)

The TRUTH, had 2 different neighbors 2day come over & both R now considering getting H-3's. Its still in the considering stage but we may have 2 renane our neighborhood !!!
