They can replace all the sensor and the RCDLC module and you would have a new system, minus the BCM which only sends the signal to the I/P. There are extensive diagnostics for this system, and it really is not that new since they have used basically the same system on Vettes and Caddys for years.
Only big difference is the sensors can be programmed to each wheel by the customer, versus the need for a special tool or large magnet.

As for deactivation...in older systems, some did allow deactivation via a TECH 2 programmer. However, this system is now required by Federal Regulations and there is no way to deactivate that I know of.

The system is designed so that you can program the sensors yourself. Older systems required a magnet, placed over the tire stem, or a frequency generator. However, the older systems were used on vehicles like the Vette that did not come with a spare, and you could not rotate the tires due to size differences. So they assumed during tire replacement the same wheel/sensor would go at the same corner.
What this forum needs is a Tech area where people could post the procedures that other people might need in the future, just like this air pressure sensor program procedure.
