Should I get a winch?
I am thinking about getting a winch for my 2003 H2. I really don't have a good reason except that I think it would look neat. I sometimes cross a river with soft mud, but there is nothing to attach a hook to anywhere near, so I can't use it to pull myself out if I get stuck.
Any ideas group? How much $, best place to buy?

I believe he means they are "good with wood"correct Buddy??? Lol
As far as the winch that's up 2u man. Cost seems to be $1,500.00 & up from what I have found. I will be doing the Warn bumper set up on my personal rig b4 spring.

Re: Should I get a winch?
One of the other forums a guy is selling a 10K Warn with synthetic cable for $730 shipped---that's a damn good price.
But for as little as you would ever use it, I think your money would be spent better elsewhere. I had one on my H3 and never spooled it out--ended up selling the 3, taking the winch off and trading it for a go-cart! Then I stumbled on a smoking deal on a winch bumper for my H2 three days after trading my winch!
I'd recommend looking at 4 Wheel Parts if you really want one, as they've got some really good prices on Smittybilts--up to $600 or less for a 10K. This would be ideal for your use more for looks and possibly a life life occasionally.
Let us know what you end up doing!

Re: Should I get a winch?
I guess I underestimated the cost, so I have dropped this idea. However, I have a manual winch that I got years ago from Home Depot for $7.00 that is rated at 6 tons. I guess I could carry that in the boonies in case I get stuck.

Re: Should I get a winch?
Harbor Freight sells cheap winches. I have entertained the thought of getting one of those considering I would probably hardly (if ever) use it.

That's the route I took for the same reason. If your usage cannot justify the expense of a Warn, it makes a good alternative. Plus, I can move it to the front or the rear hitch.
