I just spent 20 embarrassing minutes at Circuit city trying to exchange a TV..
I have the SMA Tire carrier on the the back.. The damn pin is stuck. I left the H2 out of the barn last night and it is 21 degrees. I guess the damn thing is frozen.. I will have to wait until this evening to put in barn to warm up.. Any body else have a simialar problem and have a cure.. I know what my 1st thought is .. take the SOB off and bungee cord my spare on the Gobi rack. I wish I had ordered the rack with the tire carrier..
Any ideas how to retro the Gobi to keep the spare in one place.
Thanks Mike

The best thing to do is give me that useless tire carrier.
I'd coat the pin w/ some good lube, WD 40 might have gotten it to come loose.

Tim has it right....
Mine froze up as well...
You need to spray the lube INTO the end of the pin. There should be a hole in the end where the ball-bearing detents are. Spray the WD-40 or good gun lube into there and then work the push button.
I then added a light coating of grease to the pin exterior and latch.
It's been fine ever since....

Can't you just use a long J bolt to mount the tire anywhere on the rack you want. Maybe even use a round shaped piece of 1/2 inch plywood, with a hole in it for the J bolt, to put on top of the rim to hold the tire down. Top the whole works off with a washer and nut and you are done.
Now that I think about it, one of the CO guys, maybe Alex, had Gobi design a rack with a small hole in it so that a tab welded on underneath the rack could allow a J bolt to be hooked through it so a tire could be bolted down. I remember seeing a picture of it several months ago.

Thanks for info.. I got unstupid a little after my 1st posting and realize "Dumbass you are at your store and you sell gun oil" So I went out and sprayed it with Ezzox and now it works . I'm still going to measure H2 over all height with spare on rack.

Hey Centerfire, here is a link that we talked about before. It might have alot more info on the height and other concerns. I had the factory tires at the time.

This is a link with the 37 MT/R's installed.

Hope this helps. If you need other measurments let me know.

Centerfire,
You could always upgrade to my tire carrier with a nice draw latch. Sorry couldn't pass that one up. I was thinking if you still have the factory bolt that is a part of factory tire mounting system you should be able to work that thru the decking and get it around a support member and then secure the tire down with the other components from the factory mount. ??? Just a thought off the top of my head. good Luck.

Thanks for offer to trade me.. I guess I will just carry a blow torch with me to heat it up if I need to open it.. APpears to be ok now that I added a little lube.. The button still hard to push. Oh well nobody says life if perfect..
Thanks again for info
