Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
Has anyone tried the Manik rocker panel tubes? I was wondering if anyone has compared it against the stock rocker panel tube protection.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
Forget what thread but this was discussed earlier somewhere on the site. HI has the Maniks and they work but definitely do not have the strength or coverage of the stock rails.

Re: Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
Personally I'm quite happy w/ my Manik Rails. They have held up just as good as the OEM in IMHO (plus...they are cheaper). They are more flush w/ the truck than the OEM's, but the down side is that they only have the single rail on the outside. But...I'm happy. They did great this weekend as well.

Re: Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
I should have been a bit more descriptive. I was hoping to see if there was a huge difference to justify the price delta for the GM versions.....
Or - wait until a hardcore guy like RubberDuck makes sliders using 1x3 inch square tubing. That would be great to see!

1" tubing? That seems awful small. I have stick of 1.5" tube in the garage now that I'd consider the minimum diameter I'd use to make any rocker protection.
On that subject I was at the deal the other day and not 1! of the H3s on the lot had the OEM rocker protection on it, yet EVERY H2 did. I really wanted to get a good look at the construction and thickness of the OEM ones. I looked at the H2s and I am guessing its similar.

I have yet to see one at my dealer that has the rocker rails on it but that could have to do with the fact they want over $800 plus install for them
I am not sure but from what I could tell they are very similar to the H2 rails which are standard. I think they should be standard on the H3 as well but guess it was one of those cost cutting measures. Maybe one of the H2 guys that crawled under mine to install the rails can say how close they are to the H2 rails.

Re: Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
The speck i saw said the Manik was 2 inch. I am buying the Manik! The Gm one is way too pricy for that tube with a bolt on.

Re: Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
My only worry is the weight bearing capability of both the tubing and the bracket.
I'm thinking that unless Manik's customer service department can tell me differently, if you off road, you really should use the GM variant for now.

Re: Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
Here's a pic of mine. These Manik rockers are 2 inches wide, hollow, and barely 1/16in thick. More solid than nothing, but don't expect much. I would classify them more for looks than function. I haven't had to use them and that's probably for the better.....

Re: Manik rocker panel tube protection vs. stock
It's the GM variant for me, unless someone can do 1.5"x3" or 1.5"x4" square sliders that would occupy the same space as the GM tubes.
More weight bearing load spaced out = better rocker panel protection.
