Default Tire question. Why not this?

Why not use the 305/45/22 on 22" rims rather than the 325/50/22 that everyone seems to choose? If the truck will never see off road, isn't this larger off-road tire the wrong choice vs. a Yoko or Pirelli of the first size? Thanks in advance fellas.

See below. The 305/45-22's are 33 inches whereas stock is 35 inches. It may look funny.

Kacyk,

That's true but a fallacy with that quote. Though the stock tires are technically 35's... if you actually measure them, they are 33" tall.

That's not what they told me. They said the 305/45/22's are 2 inches BIGGER than stock at 36" vs. 34". The Terra Grapplers that everyone seems to love are 37" but will have more tire noise.

Where did you get that stock are 35" and 305/45/22's are 33"?

I agree. The Toyo's seem pretty close but other than that, I think the old super swampers were one of the few that measured out exactly what they said they were.

Go to www.1010tires.com and click the tire calculator link. Also, look at the my pic above again. There is no comparison.

Rim width will make a slight difference, but those figures will be pretty close. Now when you add the weight of the vehicle they will all drop a little.

So then, is it assumable that stock and Terra Grapplers will result in roughly the same ride height while the 305/45/22 will actually cause the vehicle to sit an inch lower?

Basically, I want to get the 22" and will never go off road, so need a street tire that will not increase ride height.

325/50-22's all the way. Also, they look great in the Terra Grapplers. Our H2's have a lot of space in the huge wheel well. Getting a 33" tire in there will look rather odd - IMO.

Also, be careful about 22's and their affect on braking. I had 20" Lexani VP Off Road wheels with 35/12.50-20 Nitto Mud Grapplers and I had serious issues with stopping distance. That's whey I went with 18's this time. Stoppign these 7,000 pound beasts is hard enough without the added upsrung weight.

So if you are going with 22's I highly recommend forged alloys like WELD Racing due to their strength and lower weight. Be safe.

Thanks. I've heard some people say there's no noticeable difference with the KMC's, so , but I guess I'll ask around a bit more before deciding.

Have you seen this link? It's an H3 but the wheels are black KMC's with 325/50-22 mud tires. Ask him about the ride quality and braking. Who knows, it might work well in this case and the KMC's are lighter.

Yeah, thanks. I did see that one and have heard a few other people say they noticed no significant difference with the KMC's, but I haven't seen anyone go with the 305/45's. The terra grapplers look nice, but if I'm never going off-road, I don't know if I want to deal with the tire noise and extra cost.
