I know gps has been discussed here before(Yes I know how to use the find button!).
I'd like to get the latest and greatest info on a GPS system, and of course the biggest bang for my buck. I know systems are constantly being upgraded, and fancy new tools are being added to each, so personal experiences, and technical knowledge would be appreciated.
I'm tired of getting lost in the damned new town, so it's time to fight back!
Thanks for all y'alls help!

I've been told that the portable Garmin and TomTom models were the most user friendly out of the box vs. Magellan.
Depending on the manufacturer, user manuals are available online and are a great source for help judging what extras you want or don't want to pay for.
I just ordered a portable Garmin Street Pilot C340 online yesterday that is arriving today in anticipation for a trip to Philadelphia on Saturday. There are some excellent deals online vs buying it locally. Got the jump by reading the manual online and it had to been one of the most painless manuals I've ever had to go through.
Garmin C340 manual
And for about $100 less, the C330 model does everything the C340 does except for Traffic Alerts via subscription and the identifying of the upcoming turns with actual street names in the voice overlay.

Do you own a PDA? If so, you can buy GPS hardware/software for it.

I actually have an IPAQ 5455, and never thought about using that as a GPS. Hell, I use it for everything else, why not that too! Thanks Klaus, I'll look into that!

After doing a little more research, I thin kI my go with the Garmin Nuvi. Nice and small, and has all the nice features, and a MP3 player too! The only thing I wish it had was lat/long coordinates! Oh well!
Thanks for all your help!
WOW..Update! Does anyone have any info on the new Garmin NUVI 360. It's supposed to be bluetooth ready, and can link to your cell phone, and make calls for you, and access your phonebook too! I may hold off for a little while till I get some info on this one!

New Tomtom's do blue tooth/mp3 as well. We sell both tom and Megallan and I would say it is a toss up as to out of the box user friendliness--both are very easy!

I've got a garmin 2730 and it has been a literal life saver here in the metro DC area. Traffic thing is very slick, my only observations with it is that its complete plug and play... you'll want to run an external antennae as there isn't enough rake on the windshield for good reception... and sometimes I wish the antennae would fire up just a bit quicker for acquiring satellites. But all in all... couldn't be happier with it.

The AVN7000 is out and available with many of the same features that the 6600 will have. I have to say I like the function of the screen better on the 6600. Having played with the AVN7000 in a rental that I had for a couple of days I can say that the unit is amazing.

I like the magellan. I use it daily in my work and it's flawless. They are coming down in price too. My brother found one for his wife for christmas for $700. They are amazing right out of the box.
I don't know about all the MP3 and blue tooth stuff but for getting around town without getting lost, it can't be beat.
oh, and portable? One button and it's out.
