Default Re: Body Mounts??

I actually had my Hummer dealership replace all the body mounts on my 08 H2.
It was making squeeking sounds when driving all low speeds.
They had to order several components so it took 2 days.

Unfortunately, I'm clueless on actually doing the work.
I wish I could be more help.

Are you having the squeeking sounds under your truck? (when you're going neighborhood speeds) Is that way you're changing the body mounts?

Hi this TSB was for squeeking noises under your truck, likely this is what was done on your truck dvl57. If this is why your asking HumminNBoatin, it may still be fixed under warranty? hope this helps.

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 07-08-61-006C

Date: July 24, 2008

Subject:
EI07118 - Underbody Noise, Pop, Creak, Body Mount (Install Upper Body Mount Insulators)

Models:
2005-2008 HUMMER H2

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to adjust the labor time. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-08-61-006B (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a noise coming from the underbody of the vehicle.

Cause

This condition may be due to body coning in the area of the upper body mounts.

Use the following procedure to install insulators to the upper body mounts. Do not attempt to repair any coning of the sheet metal on the underside of the body at the mount locations that may be observed when a body mount is serviced.

Installation of Insulators to the Upper Body Mount:

1. Raise the vehicle.

2. Loosen the lower body mounts on the right hand side of the vehicle. Jack Stand Location:

3. Install jack stands on the right hand side of the vehicle to support the body (refer to graphic # 1).

4. Slightly lower the vehicle just enough to provide access to the upper body mount.

I talked to one of Hummer's techs and they said they just get a antifreeze jug and cut a circle out of it and use that for the "repair".

Its not sqeaking its loud clunking at slow speeds. Like hitting a driveway curb, rough roads, offroad, or accelerating at a stop light. So its replacement time I think.

hi HumminNBoatin' if that is the case, clunking on accelerating check the front crossmember that has a big rubber mount in the center of it, that is for the front diff. I had the same clunking noise in my truck. I remove the crossmember and lubed the top of the mount where it bolts to the front diff. That was the fix for my problem, noise gone. Hope this helps.

Its not the crossmember. I just had the cross memeber and front diff out last month when I was installing my front locker. I am having the same sound after that install as before.

Squeeking...and clunking sounds when driving slowly in a bumpy street. ..or when you're coming to a stop sign...
all because they needed to replace the body mounts.

The dealer says it doesn't harm the truck....the noises...but it's covered under warranty...

But what if it was in need of lube before you did it? It would still be in need of lube, no?

I say try the easy shiet first.

I have had a bunch of clunking in the front and rear end. The dealer has looked at it several times. They said it was the skid plate twisting so they put plastic washers between the skid plate and the body....still popped.

Finally the tec was on a test drive with me and I asked him. He told me about the body bushings and told me to put a plastic isolator between the body and the mount. There are two parts to the mount an upper bushing and a lower bushing. I removed all of the lowers....they all fell apart. They are rubber bushings molded to a metal plate, they were rusted out and not one peace anymore. I replaced all of the lower bushings 12.50 ea X10. The body is now super tight and no popping.....

I did put my rear tire carrier back on and I do have a little popping from it...but I managed to engineer it, now all is quiet.

The uppers are a pain to get out. I did take out the very back two to look at them.

This worked for me thought I would share.

hi on 2008 h2 the crossmember mount for the front diff housing. Their is a big steel washer between the front diff. and the rubber mount, lube the washer on both sides with silcone grease. The clunking i had was when i was accelerating from a stop light. It took me a 1/2 hour to find it because it was checking it by myself. I hope this explains it better.

Ok I see what you are saying. Yeah I will pull that bushing that the diff sits on an lub it. I wonder if making washers from an antifreeze bottle would work to fix that bushing as well??? I will have to see.

I have found that a fix is cutting a plactic bottle the same size as the mylar washers pictured above and using them in the same fashion works for this as well. So I think I am going to give that a try before I buy all new body mounts. Does anyone know the torque specs????

Thanks again for all the good replies guys.

*****Washer sizes are in the picture in post below*****

Snap/Popping Type Noise Coming from Front of Vehicle (Remove Bolt-In Front Crossmember and Add Washers)

Models:
2003-2006 Cadillac Escalade
2003-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe
2004-2007 Chevrolet Silverado (Classic)
2003-2006 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL
2004-2007 GMC Sierra (Classic)
2003-2008 HUMMER H2

1500 Series (1/2 Ton) and 2500 Series (3/4 Ton) with Two-Wheel Drive

Attention: This bulletin only applies to 1500/2500 Series 2WD and HUMMER H2 vehicles with recirculating ball type steering.

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to update the parts information to include a new washer for HUMMER H2. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-61-002H (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a snap or popping-type noise coming from the front of the vehicle. This condition is most apparent during hard left or right turns at low speeds. Going over bumps while turning may also aid in producing this noise.

Correction

Remove the bolt-in front crossmember and add washers using the procedure listed below.

DO NOT slot the mounting holes on the crossmember as stated in previous bulletins. Slotting the holes has been found to be less effective and, in some cases, causes the noise condition to be more prevalent.

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI.

Remove the mounting nuts, bolts and the front crossmember from the vehicle.

Clean all the undercoating off the crossmember in the area of the mounting holes.

Reinstall the crossmember with the bolts and nuts. On the driver and passenger side, add washer P/N 11509592 (C/K models) or P/N 15567836 (H2), or equivalent hardened washer (see dimensions shown), at each bolt head and nut location.

Tighten

Tighten the bolts to 120 N.m (89 lb ft).

Apply an even coat of Anti-Corrosion Coating, P/N 12346501 (in Canada, 10952414), or equivalent, to the crossmember where removed. Overlap the original coating in order to provide an effective corrosion protection
