Opening the tailgate today to load the groceries I had to help the tailgate go up ( ). Once up it will stay up, but tipped a little bit the gate will slam shut, without the springs slowing it down.
Haven't attached anything to the door (except the Fresnel lens, which is VERY light).
The thin part of the stabilizers looks a little bit dusty though. Are these gas filled?
Strange that these become weak in less than 6 months!
Anybody had this problem?
I'll certainly pass by the local GM dealer coming Monday and if necesary have them order a new pair.

I have had these fail in a few vehicles. The problem is not GM specific. They are oil filled. Last set was replaced by my service advisor right in the bay in 5 minutes ... didn't even need a tech. They are relatively inexpensive to replace and are generic units. Just like windshield wiper refils, just make sure you get the right length after your vehicle is out of warranty.
