Re: alpha cruising speed??
I can cruise at 75 mph with earplugs. Usually keep it between 65 and 70 in Oregon. It goes faster if you want to pass or speed up for a while. I haven't had mine during the summer yet, so I'm not sure if it heats up or not. From what I've heard, there isn't a problem with the geared hubs heating up at hi-speeds on the Alpha.

Re: alpha cruising speed??
I drove 55 mph on the highway in my 98. I know some guys that will cruise up to about 65, but that's about the highest you should cruise at in a stock 6.5L TD.
If you want to go fast on the highway, get something else and tow the HUMMER.

Re: alpha cruising speed??
Rusty. The best thing to do would be to test drive one, if there's one for sale nearby. You can cruise 75 in an Alpha without any trouble, they're just noisy compared to an H2. They're kind of like a cross between a peterbuilt truck and a backhoe. Big and wide and cumbersome on the road, but at home in the dirt.

Re: alpha cruising speed??
just remember the H1 wasnt ment for speed it a civilian version of a military vehicle made for rugged terrain, not exactly made for the highway

Re: alpha cruising speed??
2006 Duramax Alpha is a hot rod, you can do 70-80 mph all the live long day, just make sure you service your driveline.
When we go out in big groups we tell the Alpha owners to keep it to 65 so us with the old 6.5's can keep up
The Alpha is super quiet compared to a 6.5, almost like a car.
