So wife is driving on a biz trip today with a new H3 - 7 miles on ODO when we left dealer last night. 2 hour drive home... truck has kind of burning smell in garage. I figure it's all the stuff on exhaust, break rotors, etc., new truck breaking in, right? She just called saying there's some clear liquid on the ground after driving for 2 hours and undercarriage is looking like it's been sprayed with oil or some other liquid. According to dealer it's normal, but I don't buy it. Any quick feedback/suggestions?

Condensation from your A/C comp.?
That's more than likely what the water is.

Oil sprayed? not sure. It may be from your Land Rover. Was she following you? JK

The burning/ rubber and hot plastic smell is normal for sure.

But if there is oil somwhere leaking you could be smelling that burning off the hot engine?

After things cool down in the engine bay, get a flashlight and see if you can spot anything leaking or puddled on the skid plate(s).

good luck, i hope it's just that new engine smell and she ran through some oil or something.

Tim.

LOL, you could have just edited that Freudian slip in the original post.

But really, what a butthead thing to say JK, I would cut you off too.

Liquid: Is it oil based, or did it evaporate after a while, and you were driving with A/C on?
If A/C on and it evaporated, it is water; normal after driving with A/C on. If not, and it is oily it is not normal.

The new exhaust parts are coated, inside and out, and for a while they will smell; smell goes away after a hundred or so miles.

Yeah, I can't get much out of her on the phone, but what worries me is that she said she saw some liquid on the suspension... It's not water condensation. No dealer nearby to have a look. I'm sure we are being a bit paranoid, so I guess we'll see once she gets home.

Not too many clear oils in the vehicle; other than the PAG oil in the A/C system. Engine oil is sort of clear when new. Shock oil is clear. Not sure about the axle oils since not sure if the type used.
Good luck
