Burning music CD's
I was hoping someone could explain why when I burn a new CD, only certain cd players play it and other players won't recognize the format.
I used a CD-R disk to burn some songs and now it won't play in our Strawberry Shortcake CD player. What' up with that? The Strawberry Shortcake (SS) player is about 20 years newer than our old CD player and it won't play it, but the old one will.
Am I using the wrong disk?
Thanks.

Parental Guidlines must be changed.
Actually, I wish CP was still here because I'd defer this to her. She had the same problem making some CD's for this weekend's party, but she figured it out. I think she switched from the CD-R to something else or vice-versa.
I don't know what the heck she did.

Re: Burning music CD's
Did you finalize the CD? CD burning software has the capability of leaving the CD "open ended" so that you can add more data to it. There should be a checkbox or something to finalize the CD when writing it. Some cd players don't like this.

Re: Burning music CD's
Make sure you burn it at a slow speed (like 8x). Don't burn them at your drive's max/default speed.

Re: Burning music CD's
Here's what I did.
I selected the music we wanted in itunes.
I put in a blank disk and hit the button at the bottom of the screen that says "burn disk"
It said what songs were burning, and then finishing up disk, then BIPPITY BOPPITY BOO! it was done.
We then tried to play it on the little player, and nothing happened. The computer plays it, of course.

Re: Burning music CD's
Wouldn't the format be different between the 2 players? What's the diff between the 2 players? Brand, model # and/ or manufacturer...need info.

Really? I don't want to take them apart or anything. They are different manufacturers. I was hoping this would be a simple case of getting a different disk or something. My H2 never played anything that was burned. It only played the album. I figured it was just the player, but now I have this little player for my daughter and I'm not so sure.
My last computer had a broken disc drive and I could only read info, not write, so I haven't burned any pictures or music in over 2 years. I wonder if my disks are old?

Re: Burning music CD's
Hey Rox
I have a PC not a Mac, but I did the same thing and got pretty pissed the other night.
I used a (believe it or not) "Roxio" program because my cd burner in the media center would not recognize the format of my CD-R, I also tried the DVD-RW fwiw.
Ansywaysie, I had to choose "Audio CD" out of the options instead of the regular burn. I sure it is different for you. I can ask someone tomorrow, but in the mean time- see if this helps:

I didn't mean for you to take anything apart. There's usually some data visible somewhere on the player. I burn my files as wmp and mp3 and was wondering if maybe the old player recognized mp3 i.e. format?

Re: Burning music CD's
I have been doing some research and got a very helpful phonecall that helped a bit.
I have a mac computer and bought some music on itunes. I am trying to burn a new cd using mp3 format, but, in the help menu it says "you can convert a song to a different file format, (and keep a copy of the original) You cannot convert Itunes Store purchases". Unfortunately, most of the songs were purchased at itunes. I didn't realize all this would make a difference. I figured a disk was a disk and it should just play in whatever player I have. What was I thinking?? (guess I'm used to cassettes)
So I burned one at 8x speed to see what would happen and VOILA! IT WORKED!!!!!
Thanks EVERYONE!!!!

Re: Burning music CD's
Good job CO!
The only thing that I thought could have been a problem was if some of the music was copy protected.

CD burning technology sucks.
Even though CD drives can burn at fast speeds, then need to be pretty much perfect when they burn to a CD for playing audio in non MP3/WMA formats. Burning at a slower speeds provides a better copy, so the disks don't get screwed up as easy. Lots of times the burn will partially work, but you'll hear skipping when you playback the CD too.
Also, the quality of the CD material plays a part. Crappy 100-for-$1 CDs often don't burn well either. Get good quality CDs. They are more expensive, but still dirt cheap in the grand scheme of things.
