Bulb change - filament to LED
Hello,
Im trying to change the interior light bulbs from the standard dull yellow fillament bulbs to white led bulbs.
I've done the interior roof lights but now need to change the door and footwell lights.
Can someone tell me how i can access the bulb in the door and also the bulb in the rear footwell.
Below is a photo of what i am talking about. The roof light is nice and white now but the two other lights are still yellow.
Thanks

You have to unscrew that entire b pillar interior trim. Going off memory there is a square plug towards the top.
Door panel pops off, it goes in from the backside.

Re: Bulb change - filament to LED
I was given a couple of the LED's to try out by a friend who had loads for his BMW. I've just ordered a load more from ebay. They are just bog standard replacement bulbs.
I think to replace all of the interior bulbs you will need about 14 varying form festoon bulbs to side light bulbs.
MUD - i take it the whole door pannel just pops off and there are no screws etc to unscrew?
You would think the plastic light cover in the door and on the floor, would just pop out.

Re: Bulb change - filament to LED
I just finished a 3 day breakdown and put back of the whole interior of my H2.True indeed the B-Pillars have a rectangular pop-off piece at the top you'll have to pop off and remove a screw before you actually pull it away from it's snaps. All of the doors you'll have to take off plate behind the door release handle( 1 screw ) and then remove 2 screws holding the panel to the door itself. After that just pull the door panel away from it's snaps.

Re: Bulb change - filament to LED
Ive just done the doors and the foot wells. for those who want to do this, you do not need to take off any pannels etc. You simply get a flat head screwdriver and pop off each cover to the bulbs and swap over the bulbs. simples.
I'll post a photo a bit later.
One small problem i've encountered is the 2 front dome lights which are now LED lit, only work when the doors are open etc. They will not come on when you press the black buttons. Not sure why.

Re: Bulb change - filament to LED
By the way, can any one tell me what these things are on the drivers side part of the roof:
The one closest tot he windscreen unscrews and has a wire attached, is it a microphone or something to do with the air con?
the second one seems to make a strange noise when the engine is on,
any help would be great, thanks

I'd try putting the stock bulbs back in, see if they function correctly. If they do then you may need to put a resistor or other component inline w/ the led.

thats correct, mine did the same thing. I put my stockers back in the map lights when I had all my dash and console apart-I put those LED's into the console shifter lights but anyway the issue went away.

Re: Bulb change - filament to LED
As promised. excuse the photo's they are taken from my phone and i don't think they do the interior justice. They make the new bulbs look harsh and too bright but they aren't. they give off a modern, cool look to the interior.
I'm still waiting for a few more bulbs to arrive due to a few of the breaking in transit. these will replace the filament bulbs in the boot dome light.
Altogether you will need 6 festoon style bulbs and 8 side light style bulbs. Ebay has all of this and i only paid around ?10 for all 14 bulbs. Each bulb is very easy to replace. the doors and floor light covers just pop out with a screwdriver, the middle and rear dome light cover pops open form the left side and the 2 front map lights can be accessed if u pry open the difusers using a small flat head via a small notch on one side of the circular difuser.

You have to pop each button pack out of the steering wheel. The button pack will wiggle forward with a small screwdriver then you need something to get behind it and release the clip holding the wires in. After that you can disassemble the button pack and put in whatever you want.
I changed every bulb in mine to LED, all the large interior bulbs and everything in the dash. For the steering wheel controls I believe you would need 12v LED's. I would also recommend a diffused lens for everything in the dash to prevent any hot spots.
