Default H2 Brake Squeek

I bought my H2 used in 2005, and the dealer told me he just put on new pads/rotors.

After owning the truck for 6 months the brakes began to squeel.

I took the truck back to the dealer and he said that the pads were good, and that sometimes they "just squeek".

About 6 months ago I couldn't handle the squeek anymore so I took it to a GM dealer, paid $50 and was told the brakes were good.

Today I took the truck to a Midas shop. The mechanic showed me a pad and told me that the pad was seperating from the metal. He showed me what looked like a slight gap where the pad meets the metal housing, and said that this was the source of the squeek. He told me I need pads and rotors all around. Roughly $1100.

I'm not a mechanic, so I would like to hear if anyone has had a pad seperate from the metal. Is this possible, or am I being played?

If required, I can pull a pad off this weekend, take a picture and post the image.

Thanks.

Scooter

I have seen this before, not too common. But i will guarentee you dont need rear brakes and rotors and front rotors as well. How many miles on your truck? The rear pads have an amazing life4 span due to the design of the system. Typically you will do front brakes 3 times to once in the rear depending n driving conditions and driving habits.

I would try lubricating the metal backing plates on the pads with silicone grease.
