Will GM really halt the Hummer?
Could this be an attempt to ramp up Hummer sales? I've heard the death note of the Corvette trumped out a few times before too. When GM said they may drop the Corvette in 1980, sales of the two-seater jumped 35%. Hummer dealerships have a big investment in infrastructure. They don't say anything about the H3 plant in Shreveport. Do they make enough Colorados there to keep the plant open without the H3? It's not over till the fat lady sings and as Lee Iacocca so wisely was quoted when the Mustang first came out, "take 50% of what you hear about the future of a particular model, divide it by 3 and you still can't believe half of it."

I tried to search the site, does anyone know the total production numbers of H2s by model year?

It looks like Hummer will almost for sure be discontinued maybe sold off. GM looks like is going to focus on cars and try to be more like toyota. If hummer goes away I hope they don't mess up the fullsize trucks also.

Re: Will GM really halt the Hummer?
I'll be the first one to say that I love my H2 and love driving it everywhere. But, with 4+ dollars a gallon its become harder and harder to justify. I'm not ready to give up on Hummer just yet......
Also after reading and reading a couple of website it does look like GM, Ford and Dodge might be in trouble. And we might have to say goodbye to all V8's or rather low mileage trucks/suv's and cars.

Re: Will GM really halt the Hummer?
This reminds me of the late sixties......... GTO's, Firebirds, Chevelle's, Chargers, Challengers, Mustangs, Torenos, Camaro's, Cudas, the list goes on and on......
Dead or gutted.
The next ten years sucked for anything power related.
Then came Buick Grand National, 84 vette brought some power back...... then slowly LT1, LS1, and the Hemi's.
We are going into a dark period.
I may be driving this rig for a long time.......... they can keep those econo box pieces of sh!t.

i can't imagine NOT having a v-8... yuck..
we can always buy a crate motor out of summit racing or something and drop it into our future hybrid hippie machines... they will still make racing fuel

Re: Will GM really halt the Hummer?
I have been reading Hummer sites online today, so that means I know less than I knew this morning. Hummers online's blogspot last week talks about China wanting Hummers for earthquake relief and possible discussions with GM about licensing a plant there for Hummers and then today GM announces the possible selling of the Hummer brand name. hmmmmmm A Chinese Hummer ...sounds risque

Re: Will GM really halt the Hummer?
I don't know... alot of noise from GM today. One thing I can say for sure, I love this vehicle. I like the selective words they choose in their press release to make them sound eco friendly.. "We may get rid of Hummer division" What's that mean? Maybe they will sell, maybe we won't sell it. Let's see how this helps our perception to the public with selling eco green cars and whether SUV Sales pick up or not. Then maybe we will see what the public will think about eco friendly Hummers.
While we are at it, why don't we just loose our minds and put solar panels on top of the Hummer roofs and see if the public will buy our cars.
What a bunch of BS.
Just honor my warranty, keep making parts to service it and sell or don't sell the brand to whomever you want. Like a one night stand, I have already gotten what I wanted.

Re: Will GM really halt the Hummer?
Geez, I would think thst GM would keep Hummer. Its such a unique market that they have cornered. With the new Hx being alot smaller I thougnht maybe thier designs would head in that direction becoming more eco friendly. I figured the H2 days were numbered but not the whole company!

Re: Will GM really halt the Hummer?
Here is an article on MSN about the 30,000 jobs being cut along with the Hummer news:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24947044/
All this talk about eco vehicles is alright if you live in a snowless state but good luck to you and your AWD electric vehicle in 10" - 1.5 feet of snow!!

Verzend General Motors plaatst Hummer in etalage

They say production will start on the H2 again in this article. Can anyone verify this H2 plant is up and running?
