BRIMFIELD, Ohio -- An officer is injured after a suspect allegedly hits the officer's car with his own car -- on purpose, police say. The suspect has been charged with six counts of felonious assault, one count of felony fail to comply and one count of felony possession of drugs (cocaine).

According to the police report, Brimfield officers were called to State Route 43, near Saxe Road, Thursday. When police arrived to the scene, the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old James Gresko of Kent, fled from the officers in his 2004 Hummer and headed south on State Route 43 to US-224.

When Gresko reached the intersection, he drove across four lanes of traffic back towards the officers, attempting to hit them, the police report states. Gresko continued driving north, traveled left of center and ended up striking a Brimfield police K-9 vehicle and injuring K-9 officer Christopher Adkins.

Adkins was taken to Akron City Hospital by the Suffield Fire Department and has been treated and released.

The police report states that Gresko lost his front driver's side tire during the collision, but kept on going.

Further north on State Route 43, near the Mogadore Reservoir, police boxed in Gresko's Hummer.

Gresko refused to exit his vehicle and continued to try and drive it forward towards officers, the police report states. An officer fired shots into the tires and engine to stop Gresko from moving his Hummer forward.
