I finally got my AVIC-N1 installed last week. I used the Metra kit and it looks pretty good. I upgraded it to the N2 software so that I could also install NavTraffic. I also installed a set of headrests that I picked up on eBay. It goes in Friday for an amp, sub, and front components.

TA8088 Did you have any problem with any on star functions. Did you hook up rear view camera. And can you watch dvd's in motion. .My installer told me he would make sure on star will work and I can see dvd's in motion. Also said if there was a problem with on star diognostics he could tuck original radio in someware for those functions to work.He also said when I put it in reverse the screen will come out automaticaly.Does this sound right any info would help thanks

fourfourto if you don't mind me adding my 2 cents. I installed the avn 5435 nav.unit. I am still having On Star problems that the installer can't figure out. When I use the phone there is loud static on my side I can hear the caller fine and she can hear me fine but the static is killing me.On the camera my installer didn't use the camera that matched the Eclipse nav. so it didn't come on automaticly when I went into reverse I had to press the menu then atv button for the camera to go on.[ by time I do that I could be parked already ] Today he installed the right camera and it works great. Soon as I go into reverse the camera comes right on even if I am watching a DVD. I had my installer set the nav. unit so I can watch a DVD and re route the nav. while I am driving. I didn't install nav. traffic.

When it was first installed I had quite a bit of static when using OnStar. My installer used the PAC unit when he installed my AVIC. I have the Pioneer back-up camera but haven't had it installed yet. I did the upgrade on my N1 so that I could add the XM/NavTraffic tuner to it so no I am not able to watch DVD while in motion. There is no bypass that I know of that works for an upgraded N1. The NavTraffic feature was more important to me than the ability to watch video while driving. I haven't signed up for OnStar Diagostics yet but everything else seems to work fine. About two weeks ago my installer finished the rest of my stereo for me. I pulled the factory amp, sub, and front components and upgraded them. They were replaced with an Alpine MRV-F545 amp, 10" Type R sub, and 6 1/2" Type R components up front. The static that was present when using the PAC adapter disappeared after installed all of this. Was talking to my installer today and he said that using the PAC adapter with the factory amp may have been the problem and may have been causing a ground loop. Though the stock Monsoon system sounded pretty good it pales in comparision to what is in there now. I guess I'm running close to 900 watts now. It gets very loud but is nice and clear. I'm probably going to run the exact same setup in my Vette. As for the back-up camera it's my understanding that it will automatically come on whenever I put it in reverse. I'll let you know when I install it.
