Re: Line-X Everything
I really like this. Is Line-X is something you can do yourself, or do you have to send it to someone to do it?

Re: Line-X Everything
You can do rattle cans, but a true line-x shop is much better especially when your dealing with something so permanent, you can't find these parts any more so it's best to do it right

Did this help with the plastic on plastic noise? Especially the doors.

Previous experience.... DON"T use the rattle can stuff like you get at AutoZone or Walmart. It will still get rock chips and cannot be cleaned or washed (it will tear up your sponge, towel, rag or washing mitt and leave lint all over it).
But, it will look cool for a week or so. The good news is that you can touch it up anytime. I had my wheels (and matching canoe) sprayed in this stuff. High maintenance.

Re: Line-X Everything
Agreed on all points...but the rattle-can stuff isn't that big of a pain to clean if it's on the OUTSIDE of your truck, 'cause you can hit it with a scrub brush and just rinse it off with the hose.

Re: Line-X Everything
would you recommend the rattle can for rims? What brand rattle can, does Line-X actually sell it or are you talking about the dupli color stuff?

I used them on the rims in my avatar. It worked fine, but occasional rock chips. Or if you ever have to take your wheel off for rebalance or new tire it will scratch the crap out of it.
I think it is the duplicolor spray on. Autozone $7.99

Re: Line-X Everything
I'm getting my new HMMWV H1 wheels Line-X'ed next week!
Luckily they are 2 piece wheels so all I had to do is unbolt (24) 3/4" bolts to take the face off (x's 5 wheels = 120 bolts, UGH!!).
No more Autozone rattle can bed liner for this guy!

I'd search around a bit for folks that have tried this before proceeding...particularly if your still gonna be running your truck on the blacktop at speed. I'd think that the Line-X, being that it's so thick, might make the wheels difficult to balance.
From what I've seen on objects that have dimension, grooves, lips, or anything other than a basic flat surface, the Line-X seems to pool-up a bit (for lack of better term) before it stiffens; so you get some areas where the coating is a bit thicker than others. This MIGHT make for a balancing nightmare and given that I hear that beadlockers are already sometimes difficult to balance you may set yourself up for premature tire wear.
I'd also worry since the rims are two piece wheels that you'd possibly interfere with the rims ability to properly seal the tire (keeping the air in) if you got Line-X between the pieces where they bolt together...but that could just be some 'overkill worrying' on my part.
That's my 2 cents...prolly at least worth a thought given how much our tires tend to cost and how quickly a bad balance can chew them up.

Re: Line-X Everything
Oh I agree. Balancing sucks on these things. 172lbs per wheel and you can really feel it if something is out of whack.
I am just going to have the faces of the wheel plates sprayed. I have them marked on the outer lip for a spray / do not spray barrier.
I am dropping these 5 plates off tomorrow to let them have them for a week. I will instruct them to spray them flat to eliminate the gravity pooling. There is still a high chance for pooling on a horizontal surface, but it will be more uniform and consistent that way.
Regardless, my fingers are still crossed at this point.

Re: Line-X Everything
I got my 5 outer wheel plates Line-X'ed and parts of my front end done last Friday. More to come later (and pics).
It cost me $90 for all 5 wheels and the little piece below my grille that snaps in & out (has a lot of holes in it??). Overall I think their prices are excellent!
They quoted me $100 ea for:
chrome grill
front metal bumper
rear metal bumper
rear plastic bumper cover
$80 plastic front bumper cover (3pcs)
$225 nerf bars (pair)
$200 Gobi roof rack (6')
$60 for Gobi ladder & 2 tail light guards
$20 for both side vents @ hood area

Pretty good prices. Do you have to pull everything off or can they do it in place?

i paid about $150 for my grill to be Line-X... but there was an additional charge in that $150 for the UV coating which you may want as the normal LineX will fade. the UV coating will prevent the fading and keep it black and shiny.
iirc.. it was $100 LineX + $50 for the UV
Not sure what look you are going for, but i would highly recommend the UV coating for any pieces that will be outside or in direct sunlight.

Re: Line-X Everything
They said they wouldn't charge me much more, if any, for them to pull stuff off & put it on if they had the time. I showed up on Good Friday at 9am and they were slow, so I just started pulling stuff off.
They showed me a 9 year old example of a with & without UV; the door to their building. It faces West and isn't too far off from the original sample. I kind of like the look of it, not too glossy, as most of my rig is flat in color.
Ready to get the rest of it done now, I just need the spare $$.

Re: Line-X Everything
thats nothing special really...
i was quoted $3500 to do my whole H2 in LineX with the UV coating.
which, im waiting for some hippie to key me so i can do it and pocket some insurance $$$ at the same time.
when i had my grill done.. there was a white H2 SUV that was getting the whole vehicle LineX.. this was about 1.5 years ago...maybe it is the only 2008 model that is coated, but i highly dount it the only H2

Re: Line-X Everything
That is pretty cool looking! My wife says I need to have ours done top to bottom, but I enjoy buffing and waxing too much to take that leap.
I do plan on having all of my outer plastics coated, as they are all faded grey now anyways.
