Now being a Noob only in name I do use the search function but have a question that maybe someone, like maybe a mod, can answer. I was searching today for a post I made several weeks or maybe a month ago about tie rods. I searched for posts that I made, keywords "tie rod" in the H3 sections but it always said there were too many matches and to narrow it down. Apparently it wasn't searching for the keywords only in my posts, is there a way to do this? OABTW, I found the info without posting the question or using the search

Re: HELP ME OUT
"Searching" will produce mostly garbage because of the thousands of garbage posts associated with each topic. What the noobie is hoping for is the Readers Digest version of the useful info on the topic. He knows that somebody has the answer. At least he can hope.

x2, I'm not too much of a noob, but I've given up using the search since it's 90% BS and 10% useful. Other than the sheer carwreck rubberneck factor for interest, this whole website seems to be going to hell in a handbasket ever since those new mods took over....

Enter the key words you're looking for and the author's name. You can also use appx. dates and choose the forum section to search. I don't know what the "child forums" are.

Re: HELP ME OUT
Before the elcova.com space purge and the rehosting, pretty much everything had been discussed. Unfortunately, a lot of good stuff got lost. Those with institutional memories will recall that topic X was discussed, but might be surprised to see the posts gone. And the internet wayback machine and google caches don't have them either.
This doesn't excuse laziness, unless said poster admits laziness before asking the question

Re: HELP ME OUT
Searching is one of man's oldest compulsion. It is how we define ourselves in this hostile world. We search for truth. We search for acceptance. We search for community. We search for answers that have plaqued us for millions of years. Of course, we search for happiness and solace. The search is a journey without end so long as there is an ounce of curiosity in man's collective mind. Sometimes, we just search for a better way to search.
(just padding!)

Its good to search, especially if you find what you're looking for.

I did all of the above and it did not list only posts that I made
I believe the "child forums" are those with a section. For example if you select "Hummer H3 Discussion Forums" and check the "child forums" box it will search all the H3 sections. Could be wrong but that was my impression.

agrv8r, the true number is 54 covering nearly 3 pages and most of those are telling lazy bums to use the search feature.

The problem is...young adults these days work more than you old folks do. We don't have the time to waste searching for stuff, not to mention it's way smarter to just ask the question, piss off some people and be done with it!
We aren't accustomed to having to wait 6 months for someone to deliver and return a message via horseback like you all were when you were "twenty something"! When we want information, we want it now w/o any hassle. You can't just expect us to change overnight.
You better get used to our instant gratification deal pretty soon, as you already are or will be in nursing homes and we (twenty somethings) will be caring for you. We don't have time to wait around and let you die either if you get what I'm saying...
And for the non "twenty somethings" not using the search engine, that's just ****ed up.

Hey Dei, am I going to have to catch the stagecoach to Denver and then take the plane down to Florida and tell you how all us old people had to walk 50 miles each way to school and fight off grizzlies and mountain lions along the way

The search button can bring up interesting places within the forum, if a person knows the right word to use
