Guys,
A while back I posted a note about an issue with my rid shutting down on the highway once in a while. I have 5,000 miles on and it did it maybe 6 times or so. First few times I freaked a bit, since it was at full speed on the highway.
Took it to the dealer, they checked it over, drive it for a few miles.....nothing of course. That was 500 miles back.
Last weekend, I am driving at about 50mph and there it is again, the truck just dies. I have to stp, put her in park and start her up, all good again.
Anyone heard of this happening to the H3 or any other car that could tell me what the problem could be????

I have heard it happening to other vehicles (GM as well as Ford/Chrysler and yes, the never break Honda and Toyota), but not the H3, until your post.
My recommendation would be to call the assistance center and let them know this is happening. It is a safety problem...big time.
In defense of the dealer (something I'm not known to do), if a dealer cannot recreate the problem, it is hard for them to fix it.
The problem might be as simple as a wire losing contact, or as complicated as a computer with a defective circuit board. Most problems I have heard of were due to ignition systems shutting down, or fuel pumps shutting off. However, with a shut off fuel pump, the car will not immediately go dead, it will sputter until all the fuel is burned, then go dead. Electrical problems go dead instantly.
Now, a few questions.
Do you remember if every time this happened you hit a bump or a pothole? If you have a wire not connected correctly, sometimes a sudden jolt will break the electrical connection, then when you pull over, it starts. Same with a circuit board inside a computer, but not as likely.
Did you go through a lot of water (probably not the cause but who knows).
Those are the only two items that come to mind.

Hi there,
Thanks for the response! I am shamed to say that the H3 has not even been off-road yet. Excuse is that I have not had the opportunity to do so. For that reason, no water crossings whatsoever.
As to bumps, I actually don't think so. Seems like it happens on a smooth road as well. At least last time it happen, I was paying little more attention and the only way I noticed it was that suddenly the engine quit pulling and the RPM meter went to 0.
I will give them a call. Is the assistance center number somewhere on Hummer.com?

Does your truck have an alarm/remote start system on it?

No. The truck is as came from the factory. No remote start or alarm or any other aftermarket or installed accesories in the electronics.
