The Radio needs to be Reprogrammed at the dealer to recognize the Vin of your vehicle. Factory head units are paired with their vehicles. You also need to be sure the unit works with your vehicles amp setup. Use the SEARCH Button for more info on this process.

i ordered a '04 navigation head unit for my '03 that should be here wednesday. i do have the bose option in my rig. i called the dealership and they told me they would unlock the nav unit but wouldn't install it. do you think i'll have any problems with the amp? or is it a pretty straight forward install that any custom stereo shop can do? and yes i did a search and there is way too much info to sift through and not enough time. thanks!

I swapped in A nav unit in an 04 and it plugged right in, same harness and connectors just needed to add A gps antenna to operate the nav system. And program once install is complete.

Cliff Notes:
'03s have a LUX amp, so you must use a NAV unit made to work with a LUX amp. If you get the wrong NAV unit, you will get no audio.
'03s also have no VSS signal wire in the head unit connector, so you will have to add one.

Klaus, anyway to tell if the nav unit is made to work with a lux amp by looking at it? also, just so i get this straight, it needs to be programmed AFTER the install?

Some of the NAV units have "LUX" or "PREMIUM" listed on the part number label. If not, the part number will have to be used to look up which system it is made for.
When we say "programming" we are referring to the VIN lock. The first time a brand-new NAV unit is powered up, it stores the VIN of the vehicle it is installed in. It then compares the stored VIN number in memory to the current VIN each time the unit is powered up. As long as they match, everything is fine. If they do not, the unit will display "Theftlock Activated". At this point, the vehicle will have to be connected to a Tech2 diagnostic unit to command the NAV unit to "relearn" the VIN from the current vehicle.
So yes, the NAV unit needs to be installed first, before it can be unlocked.
