Default Spacers? Hey...I'm just asking.

From what I'm reading in the forum many individuals are against spacers, but I wanted to open a new thread to get some clarification on the 'spacer topic.'

I've been reading that 'standard spacers' (those with holes to fit over your factory studs) cause added stress on the studs and can cause them to break/bend. I can see how this would be possible given that you are putting distance between the rim and the hub, but is the stress typical? And if so, does the stress mainly occur during normal driving or off-roading?

And if the standard type of spacer is 'bad' in general, what's the deal with 'adapter-spacers' (those that bolt on to your existing studs and provide you with new studs on which you can bolt your rim)?

My research on these led me to Fred Goeske at wheeladapter.com where I had a indepth conversation regarding adapter-spacers. The majority of his product line is fashioned out of billet aluminum, but he can produce spacers out of steel upon request. Wouldn't these types of spacers avoid the stud-stress problem created by the standard spacers? What is the downside to these types of spacers?

Any constructive input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have been riding on spacers/adapters for about a year now with no problems! I wanted a wider track pattern since I lifted it so it wouldn't be to top heavy on turns. No problems yet. Oh and they are the billet aluminum type! comes with all the lug nuts required

Its a great way to destroy your hubs. Dont worry the H2 can get pretty sideways without rollover issues.
