Jeeper Looking to buy a used Hummer...suggestions?
I am looking at used 03'/04' or maybe a 05' H2 Hummers because they are more in my price range. I may have to wait to buy one, but I want to know if one year is preferred over another. I also want to know if there are some must have features or options that I should look for. I hope to get one by next year. I am thinking of selling my Jeep and getting a Hummer. I don't think I can afford a new one, but have seen some good deals on used H2's. I have heard they rattle some, is there anything else I should know? I appreciate your feedback, as I have never even been in a civilian Hummer.

Re: Jeeper Looking to buy a used Hummer...suggestions?
They are all very similar and have few issues. The drivetrain is pretty darn solid and will last well beyond 250,000 miles if maintained. My chevy 2500 work truck has the same motor and similar tranny and has 255,000 on it.
Wind noise around the windshield is common but easily fixed (most were fixed by the dealers long ago). Rattles and squeaks are typical like most GM stuff, but not really that bad. Other than that a bone stock H2 is a serious off roader that can tackle most well known trails in its stock form, see picture proof here in the photos section. Its the best full size 4x4 on the market period.

Cars.com is a great tool for finding vehicles in your price range. You can find H2's by model year, price, etc.
Good luck and have fun!

Re: Jeeper Looking to buy a used Hummer...suggestions?
I own both a Jeep Wrangler and a Hummer H2 and they are two totally different animals. The Wrangler is a fun vehicle to drive around town and or wheel in during the summer time but not so when its cold out side. The wrangler is small so you can get places you cant in a larger vehicle like the
H2, but that is the only down fall between the wrangle and the H2. Everything else about the H2 is a major plus over a Jeep. But who really wheels alone? With the H2 you can take the wife and kids along with all the gear you will ever need, you cant do that is a jeep. On the road there is a night and day difference. The H2 drives better than any Jeep and has all of the extra toys to make the drive more enjoyable. There is really not a whole lot of options on a H2. A few you can think about are the sunroof, the air ride and the navigation system everything else is pretty much standard depending on what package the H2 has. Most hummer owners are like most jeep owners and like to customize their vehicle to their liking, that might be DVD systems, or off road items like wenches and lift kits etc.

If you are looking for a great SUV at around $35000
or so you could not better for the price.
Our 2003 LUX is the best truck we have owned.
It has great ride plenty of room commanding view
and gets much attention too.
Ours is quite and has no wind or road noise or
rattles.
Over for the price and equipement offered they are
great.
Let us know if you get one.

Re: Jeeper Looking to buy a used Hummer...suggestions?
H3 Alpha......... but if you truly desire an H2 the only year that would really be any different or preferred would be 2008 and up becuase now its a 6.2 litre instead of a 6.0 litre and its got a 6 speed instead of the 4 speed in the previous models, and its got a different interior. Other than that all the H2's are really the same

Re: Jeeper Looking to buy a used Hummer...suggestions?
I think you all for your feedback. My Jeep buddies would be having a cow if they knew I was here . What is the deal w/ the air ride? Is it a option that most would say to get or no? An on board compressor does sound great. Does that also maintain air pressure in your tires like in the military issue? I like the look of the H2 the best and hope to get one w/ in the next year. I have to sell my Jeep first. I will probably play w/ it for the spring and early summer and sell it. Thanks again for your input, you have all been very helpful.
