I really try hard, I really try hard to like my H2 and overlook the general lack of dedication and serioussness for design issues on GM's side but it's so hard...

Let me start out by saying: I made a mistake. I shouldn't have screwed around with the little plastic 'doors' that come down from the ceiling panel. You know, three doors without the sunroof and I believe one when you have a sunroof installed.
My XM headunit was glued into one and came ondone during the hot summer so I set out to fix it and make it stay forever. In the process I screwed up one of the hatch doors (drilled holes in it) thinking that it is no big deal to replace the plastic panel.

I went to the dealer last week and they cooly informed me that this little door will cost me $1000 because they don't sell the hatches by themselves. Rather, I would have to by the whole roof console which is $1000.

I don't know what to think between kicking myself in the ass for not asking before I screwed it up and wanting to kick GM's ass for being such asses.

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to just drop the f*** car off at the lot and tell'em to keep it.

I feel your pain, I miss- drilled one and had to order a new one for the rig.. MAJOR OUCH! I can't figure out why they are sooo much... The ones they have in the tahao's and burbs are pretty close to the H2 and are not even half that..

Dan isn't it sad that I actually considered taking an H2 for a 24 hour 'testdrive' just because of this issue?

My rear quarter glass was replaced for just under 1k. THAT is absurd. Fortunately the car wash that scratched it paid for it but still it's ridiculous.

My rear glass was quoted at $800, got a friend of mine with connections to get it for $500, thats still a lot of money for a flat piece of glass

Well Plastic can be alot of money and besides they have to keep the parts that never break expensive so that the parts that do wear are cheap (IF THEY DIDNT DO THIS PEOPLE WOULD BE BUILING THERE OWN H2's IN THEIR GARAGES FOR 30K). You just broke the part that was never supposed to break.

My Jaguar's cup holders hook is a bit loose, drive over a bump it will open automatically. No big deal but certainly want it fixed. But I have to buy the whole darn Connelly(sp?) leather center armrest console or compartment at some eye poping price. I feel your pain but this is nothing unusual and done by all auto brands. Wait till you see Mercedes's or Audi's prices. I don't feel strongly about it, no big deal; life is good, little things are not going to bother me.

I don't agree with "the general lack of dedication and serioussness for design issues on GM's side", but that's ok, hinten is a nice guy, we don't have to agree.

C'mon now. That is a freaking rip off. That overhead console should cost no where near $1000. It's a vacuum formed piece of plastic for crying out loud.

Dogg, he was talking about the whole roof, not just the console. For $1,000, you get the whole roof, the whole inside roof, lining, the roof consoles, 3 compartments, 3 doors, everything. Just for that size, $1,000 is not that crazy. The upseting part for hinten is that he cannot just buy the console ONLY, without the roof or the ceiling, whatever it is called.

Maybe you read right I read wrong. $1,000 for that roof console is a lot.
Here's an idea, I've seen those custom low rider Hummers, the entire ceiling was changed to something absolutely low class low life butt ugly stuffs in purple velvet or puke green. Also many Hummers have drop down LCD screens, plus many limo conversions, those owners couldn't wait to dump the factory roof console and doors, bet you them those custom shops must have a bunch of these roof consoles and doors and parts in a big box somewhere. Give them a call.

MAC, yes, I will start shopping around for just the little door. The way I understood the Hummer parts guy was that I would purchase the whole ceiling console for $1000. Just the center plastic with three doors and two lights, nothing else is included.

They were nice enough to call their west coast distributor (?) to check if they can just make a door available. I heard the other person on the phone laugh across the room, I guess I wasn't the first one with this problem.

If the door just has a hole drilled in it then mabey I can fix it for you. no cost, just trying to help out and save you some $. If I can't I most likley can get my dealer to replace the door for you. LMK!
