Atv on cargo carrier, is it possible
I am looking to purchase an ATV and a trailer, I have seen some rear cargo carriers that can handle upto 1000lbs.
Has anyone mounted a full size ATV on their H2's with these rear/front mounted cargo trailers? Any foreseeable issues with this?
I believe the ATV should weight less than 500lbs.
Thanks

What cargo carrier are you talking about? I doint think my Polaris Sportsman will fit but that would be cool. I am wondering if it will fit in the back of a SUT.

Re: Atv on cargo carrier, is it possible
Yep, carry my 450R Honda on an atv carrier behind my H2. Don't even think of doing this with an extension though, as it is its putting a lot of stress on that hitch. I took my spare tire off, so i can clear it without an extension.
I wouldnt put a machine over 450lbs on there though. Its not the weight, its the tortional stress (lever effect) since the atv is hanging way out from the hitch.

John,
Thanks for the reply, any problems driving with that setup with that much weight on the rear?
Any pics would be appreciatted.
THe local Uhaul rents trailers for $10 a day, so that is an option, but I prefer to have everything in my garage.
BTW, cool website.

My quad is just an inch shy of 8' long and almost 700lbs so that wouldn't work!
I bought a Stirling 5SI convertible trailer for it.

Found this company that can handle the 700lb weight, but not the 8 foot length.

Heres whta im having made,no pics yet though.im having an extension come out of receiver to just pass the tailgate when its down and then a riser bar up flush with the tailgate wich has a platform on it as wide as tailgate but only 2feet longer .If you have your quad in the back it only needs to support the back wheels(or front depends on which way you load).im also having strap on it to attatch to the tie down brackets in the bed so it doesnt stress so much when loading.Spare tire goes on a custom made receiver on the front of truck.and my ramps will slide right under the quad.

Re: Atv on cargo carrier, is it possible
Well after which seems like an eternity of searching, I finally found an economical/safe way to tow my atv/harley in a convenient manner and that would not take up too much garage space and for only $260. Really about $500 with all the goodies I wanted (spare tire, wooden border, wood floors, etc.).

Before you guys go off on it as being made in China, I did alot of searching on the net about this trailer and the responses have been suprisingly good.
I can fold it up an put in the side of my garage and use it at my convenience. Other foldable trailers range from $1,000 to $2,000 which I thought was ridiculous.
Here are some other links about the trailer.

My buddy is helping me put it together this Saturday and will let you guys know the results
