Bought My H3 this past Monday...Superior Blue with Chrome Package!! AWESOME!! My question is...anytime the fan is on and it is in the air recirc. mode the airconditioning compressor is running (Its Cooling).even thought the amber light in the snowflake is not on...Is this normal?? If you go to outside air the compressor turns off...the only way to turn the compressor off with the fan on is to select outside air..

Sounds like a safety feature to dehumidify the truck and keep the windows from fogging.

1) the manual does not state that the AC comes on with recirc.
2) the AC light doesn't even come on.
3) this AC doesn't come on with the recirc in any of my other GM vehicles

I checked the manuel and called my local service dept. before I posted here...Both the sales and service rep said they did not think it was normal..I am going to go by the dealership next week and see if any of the other H3's do the same thing..

My H3 does the same thing. I do not think it is a malfunction. There was another post about this a week or two ago, and someone responded that it is supposed to work that way.

Mine does the same thing, I thought it was somewhat strange, but then just accpeted it for the way it was supposed to be. I'll be interested to hear what you find out.

I have a whole fleet of GM vehicles and they all have a feature called Max AC. This is the ONLY way to turn on the recirc in my vehicles. If you want the benefits of recirc but you don't want the A/C compressor on then just adjust the temperature dial. On your H3 turn your temp dial two or three clicks to the left and the compressor will switch off but the recirc light and feature will still be on. You'll find that if you have your recirc on and turn the dial all the way to the red, you're heater will be on in the recirc mode.

you can push both buttons in to turn em on and off. like having recirculation on without the a/c. or visa versa. just like turning on and off the stereo.

But then its not in recirculation mode. It is pulling air from outside.
If I want the A/C on, I will turn it on. Why make it on by default just because I want recirculated air?

ON my H3 the compressor run no matter which position the temp control is in...with the temp. control turned all the way to the left the compressor is still on...the only clicks to the left that will turn it off are the FAN...with the fan off the compressor turns off which in my H3 is the ONLY way to turn off the compressor in the recirc. mode...selecting outside air will turn the compressor off if the snowflake swith is off..but even with the amber light out(OFF) in the snowflake switch if it is in recirc. the compressor is on.
I have never owned a vechicle that would do this and I think it is unusual that it works that way...I am going to the dealer today and check out some other H3's and see if they do it...It may be the way it is suppose to work as some on here have said their's do it too.
A call to Shreveport may be next!
Thanks for everyones reply.

It seems that it may be the case on all H3 Vehicles......

Just curious here but why the concern? I guess it has a lot to do with where you live but down here I don't think I ever use the recirc mode without the air on. Maybe in areas with cooler weather more months of the year it is more important. Just curious.

The reasons I am interested in this are:
1. I have never owned another Vehicle that did this.
2. I want to make sure that is what GM intended for it to do.
3. Because BOTH the salesman and service manager of my local dealership said it's not suppose to do that..but it now seems they don't know what they are talking about.
4. In the winter time I think it is a waste to run the airconditioning compressor with the heater on!

I understand complete why you would want to know based on those reasons. Not questioning anyone, just curious. I am amazed that both the salesmand and service manager both say that if everyone else says their GM vehicles to this too.
