Hey all:
I decided to look into some less expensive options for my H2 roof rack, and started researching Safari racks. I can get one in the range of $280-$400, and based on a fax I got today, it looks like they have mounting brackets that fit the H2. I'm going to go home, do some measuring and will post a definitive answer...it sure would be nice not to have to pay $900 or more!

So far I'm mainly looking at the "cage" type racks you see in 4x4 magazines. Need something a little larger than the crossbars afford.
If I see anything similar to what you are looking for I'll pass it on.

Check out Yakima and Thule(both have websites). I was looking for a possible roof tire rack a while ago and rember that at least one of them had all kinds of roof options for the H2.

Has quite a few options.
I was hoping to do some measuring of the H2's roof rack today to see which ones would fit, but of course, it's RAINING and windy here...might just do it anyway!
I'll keep you posted.

I'm looking for one like the American safari rack on the YellowH2.com. The 5' [doesn't cover the sunroof] is $900 plus freight [which is about $100 to a business in Indiana.]The full size is 7.5' and is $100 more.
Good luck!

I want the 5' version so I can stand up and film out of the sunroof. But acording to American, the sunroof is so big, if you put lights on the rack way back there, they will get blocked by the roof.
So, I may have to get a light bar up front, and I don't like the stock one that well. Any other options?

I did some measuring and some reading, and here's what I've come up with:
The gutters (that run front to back) on our H2s are 64.5" from center to center. The safari racks, and all others that I've been researching come in a maximum width of 54"...not going to work to mount to the gutters.
The other option is to mount to the cross-bars. I'm not a fan of this because that rack would be WWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY up there, so I may have one custom made.
Here are some links to racks that can be cross-bar mounted. I've talked briefly with these companies, and they can't GUARANTEE that their racks fit, so caveat emptor.

(thule racks actually have a "fit wizard" for your vehicle and show needed hardware and mounting brackets. This one definitely fits the H2)
http://www.4wd.com/default1.asp (search for roof racks, you'll see a listing with links to each. I'm investigating the Wilderness racks in a 54" width)

The companies whose links are shown almost all have a telescoping or expandable rack. This would probably solve the off-road light/sunroof dilemma that someone posted about.
Good luck!
