Does the ladder stay on with the door open?

Kim,

Yes...the Gobi ladder is fixed to the rear cargo door of the H2. It is pinched on the bottom with three set hex screws and at the top of the door with two bolts and nuts. The install was very easy it took all but 30 minutes to mount.

does the door open all the way with the extra weight of the ladder, or do you need to assist it with your hand. Mine seems to need assistance when it is very cold, and I don't even have a ladder yet.

Interesting to see that you only have the ladder but not the top rack, you also added rear lamp guards. Clever way to go and looks nice. Guess that is largerly for cosmetic rather than frequent or practical usage. Without a hitch step, it could be difficult to get up to the lowest step. Can you tell us the cost of the ladder only? thanks.

Patrick,

I'm here in Minnesota...The Land of Ten Thousand Degrees Below Zero.

The only thing that needs assistance in this weather are my side mirrors, which are worthless below freezing. I can't wait for HUMMER to solve that problem. Can you hear me...HUMMMER?

I was very suprised at how light weight the Gobi Ladder is. Now I just need to get the roof rack. I'm waiting for a low profile roof rack. Hopefully, Sandra and Gobi will be able to answer my challenge for a low profile roof rack. I would sure hate to loose the luxury of the soft cloth wash I have become accustomed to using several times throughout the week.

MAC,

My H2 has only had cosmetic surgery twice. Not like Peter Pan's (a.k.a. Micheal Jackson)face. Just kidding. At least when we take our H2's to the surgeon it doesn't come back looking worse.

Regarding your statement about the missing hitch step. I will not get a hitch step since I have a winch power plug for hooking my Warn 9.5ti winch to my rear reciever hitch. I also have it powered to the front of my H2. What I have done in the past and it has worked is to use the current D-ring just below the bumper and ladder for my step onto the bumper and then the Gobi ladder. The ladder ran around $275.00. Check with Sandra on pricing.

I'm looking forward to sitting up on the roof during the summer for the fourth of July fireworks.

The low profile rack will be out before summer the best part is that you can still go into the car wash and into a garage. It will look like the current GOBI model the only bad thing is will be no tire carrier, you give that option up when you go for a low profile model. I will keep everyone posted. I will also post pictures as soon as they become available.

Have you seen an H2 with the GOBI rack on it? I am interested in it but my wife wants to see it before we order one. Thanks

Sandra,
You say "no tire carrier, you give that option up when you go for a low profile model."

Does that mean that the ability to mount/carry the spare tire was dependant on the OEM crossbars being there??

No, the main reason for a low profile rack is to fit in the garge and through the car wash. If you add the tire on top you may not fit in some garages or in certain car washes. There have been several request for a low profile with the tire carrier and as you know where there is a demand there will be a supply.

Thanks. Just curious. I personally like my spare on the inside and I like the plans for a low profile bracket system for the Gobi rack. One more question: Will this low profile rack come in "with" and "without" sunroof allowance??

yes, there will be a GOBI Rack with the sun roof opening as well as a GOBI Rack with no sun roof opening. The other option is a Short Low Profile GOBI Rack 5'5" long. I will post pictures as soon as they are available.

Very interested to see the low profile rack. Wonder how is it possible to fit inside a garage, I only have 1" or 1/2" to spare on the rare roof rack when driving into the garage. Maybe without the roof racks?

Sandra,

Do you have preliminary pricing on each of the options?

Sandra, I am interested in the new pricing for the low profile ladder as well... please supply a note as a new thread, as soon as you know, on the general discussion board. Thanks.
