I am looking to get a GPS. Which ones do you have? What is the best bang for your buck? I want color. Prefer portable.

I have a Garmin StreetPilot 2620 and am very happy. It's got all I wanted; touch screen, remote control, full US nav software, portable (but does NOT run on batteries; comes with car and AC adapters).
It's a little pricy, but I got a good price at 4X4books.com - they are an authorized reseller.
Go find one and give it a look.

I appreciate the feedback. I was thinking about the Garmin but I did think it was pricy. Do you feel it's worth the money?

I've been updating my 60c after each update comes out. A great unit! v3.30 may 7th was my last update. I see yours v3.40 for cs. I didn't go for the s because it drains the charge to fast. This one has fixed memory and beep beep when there is a turn. No voice.

I think the most important thing about GPS is learning how to use them, not in town but in the field. What makers a good GPS is basic futures and good maps. good topos and parks Yellow stone ... you can get maps and topos on ebay.

Hi,
If you'ld like an abundance of information on GPS units, GPS Information, is a good start. All the popular brands of handhelds/portables/OEMs and retrofitted units appear to use NavTech (now NavTeQ) mapping software. This is vector-based which allows "overlaying" of data sets to build the map seen on the screen, so your decision on which to buy will boil down to the one most user-friendly for you to use. BTW, many do not give detailed mapping of roads in rural areas. Fugawi makes a software product that allows interpretation of maps (both raster and vector) onto their product for use on a laptop.

I just bought a 2620 from Car Toys for $1,099.00. Where are you mounting it? The most logical place seem just above and behind the center A/C vents. However, there is an area above and behind the driver's A/C vent. Any thoughts?

My Streetpilot III (2620's predecesor) is on the driver's AC vent. On the center AC, I cannot reach any of the buttons safely when driving (to hit detour for example).

I've had the 2620 for about a week now. It's about 100' off for just about every turn. The factory Nav in out Odyssey is dead on but this Garmin doesn't seem that great (considering all the hype). Do I need to return it or is this normal? It's placed in the middle of the dash close to the windshield as possible. There is nothing mentioned in the manual about a reset or recalibration.

It sounds like your GPS receiver does not have a good view of the sky, because of the limitation of the H2s vertical windshield. I suggest you buy an external magnetic GPS antenna. The more satellites your GPS unit can "see" the more accurate it will be.
I had the same problem with my in-dash nav. I now have my nav unit using the roof mount GPS antenna that was connected to the OnStar, which I junked to install the 6-CD changer.
You can test this theory by putting your Garmin in a vehicle with a more conventional windshield. Remember, GPS signals are line of sight only, and very weak.

Anyone splice an external antenna into your factory Nav system? Can it be done? The reception on my factory Nav on my Honda Odyssey is poor. It's extremely acurate when it grabs 3 or more satellites but half the time it says that I'm driving on water! I checked the Honda forums and found no answers so I was wondering if anyone had a need to do this on their H2 (with factory Nav). The factory Honda Nav is an Alpine. I called Alpine and they have no "plug in" part for my request.

One other thing you might want to try is to upgrade the firmware on the 2620. The latest is software version 3.70 as of June 16, 2004:
