I added the Audiovox "plug and play" Sirius satellite receiver to my rig today.
It is the unit that can go into a home docking station or separate boombox. The car dock will FM modulate/or allow a direct connection to an aux input. I'm using the FM mod right now but eventually plan to replace the entire stereo system (can't make my mind up with what at this time)and will use the direct connection at that time. In the meantime though, so far I'm impressed. (I used a Kenwood FM mod/Sirius in my H2, and was never really happy with the sound quality - kind of AM ish) The sound quality seems much better than the Kenwood I had.
It took about 1hr to put it in. Very simple and straight forward. I hardwired the power, rather than use the cigarette lighter, and mounted the dock w/double sided 3m tape to the area below the fuel and temp gauges. Being a soft top, the antenna is on top of the speaker pod above the dash. The lead routed down the center post of the windshield. The soft top fabric is "transparent" enough to allow a full strength signal.
I'm researching my options on a full replacement of the stereo right now. I can't decide where amps, subs etc will go and keep it looking stock. I'm looking for ideas or input in this area, If any of you have any, definitely send them along.
John

Damn,
I was just considering buying the xm version. I had sirius wired in my h2 that I sold and I loved it.
So you bought the kit that you just stick in the tape player?

Actually, the "car dock" SIR-CK2 comes with the mini-jack to RCA patch cord to connect directly, and also FM Modulates, wirelessly (unlike my kenwood in the H2 that hooked up inline w/the antenna). You could, I guess buy a mini-jack to cassete adapter use it. So far I'm impressed with the wireless FM Mod. The Actual tuner unit has a menu item to enable or disable FM modulation. Here are the actual product #'s and a link to the crutchfield site.
Audiovox Sirius "Shuttle" SIR-PNP2 (Tuner)
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...IRPNP2&g=79800
Car Cradle SIR-CK2
Home Cradle SIR-HK1
I like Sirius over XM, mainly because it is 100% commercial free. Also it offers NPR (I'm a car talk fan).
On a side note: My stereo guy here said that Alpine (others to follow) will offer tuners with XM or Sirius capablilities built in. I'm going to wait on my stereo replacement until some of the '04 stuff hits the shelves.

Ha, I ran out and bought the XM unit that plugs into the tape slot. I had it set up in less than 15 minutes. Yes, I need to organize my wiring but it works great, sounds great and was $100 out the door, no hassle. It took 5 minutes to pick up the signal.

Great!
Did you get the one that can be taken inside or put into a jambox?
Mine would have taken 15min too, but I hardwired my power (major PITA).

Ya know, I didn't get the one for the jam box. It seems I could just plug it into the tape slot of a jam box anyway and stick the mouse antenna on top? Really, what's the difference?

I think all you really get is a nifty antenna and then they make you pay for their jam box. I'll have to give it a try.
