Motor Swap
Just wondering if anyone here has any experience or advice on pulling a motor and trans out of an H2. I witnesses a motor swap at a dealer where they had lifted the entire body off the chassis... I'm not prepared to handle anything even close to that.
Can the motor and trans come out of the engine compartment as a unit?
Raise the vehicle and pull trans out the bottom? Motor first, trans first?
I actually have a million questions running thru my head, but I though I would start here first...

Re: Motor Swap
Since I'll be getting ready to do the Duramax conversion, I took a look at the body yesterday. If you pulled the upper tiebar from the radiator support, you may be able to slide a stock engine out of the front compartment.
The tranny will definitely have to be removed but it looks like there is a chance it will fit.
Having said that... the place doing the conversion does the same thing. That is, pull the body off the frame. As big as the duramax diesel is, there is no way it will drop in from the top.
As far as pulling it from the bottom.
Not gonna happen. After two lift kits on an H2 and seeing everything under there, no way jose.

Re: Motor Swap
Thanks Mark.
Doesn't seem to be a lot of room in the engine compartment, I agree, yank the motor first, then drop the trans.
I received some pics on ******* in response to this question, seem to follow what you suggested.
Duramax solution is tempting, a little out of reach for me. Have fun with it.
