Default Re: Cherokee

do you know who made Hummer and Jeep?

AM General The history of the HMMWV (Humvee) has ties with Jeep. In 1971, Jeep's Defense and Government Products Division was turned into AM General, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Motors Corporation, which also owned Jeep. In 1979, while still owned by American Motors, AM General began the first steps toward designing the Humvee. AM General also continued manufacturing the two-wheel-drive DJ, which Jeep created in 1953.

The General Motors Hummer and Chrysler Jeep have been waging battle in U.S. courts over the right to use seven slots in their respective radiator grills. Chrysler Jeep claims it has the exclusive rights to use the seven vertical slits since it is the sole remaining assignee of the various companies since Willys gave their postwar jeeps seven slots instead of Ford's nine-slot design for the Jeep.

so there you go....

it was never Hummers design to begin with.. nor Jeep's either.. it was just a design that was never changed.

Bingo! Good explanation...the law suit got dismissed in 2003/04 because of the ties both have to AMC.

That aside...I wouldn't own a Mopar Jeep unless it was a Wrangler (and then preferably a TJ or YJ). If you buy one of these new ones you'll likely be driving a half-breed Benz (Grand Cherokee) or some Fiat mutt, which is what I'd bet this new Cherokee is.

Chrysler'd be dead if not for the Jeep marque...but I still don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that they'll fuk it up. I wouldn't have lost any sleep if Chrysler had sank during the 'bailout days' and Ford picked up the Jeep marquee again. With Ford at the reigns I think we'd see less 'trail-rated crossovers' and more true Jeep-heritage comin' out of that line.

...but, whatever.
