Default sluggish feeling after installing K&N CAI

so i just installed a series 77 K&N CAI system.

no issues during the install, except for craptastic instructions.

noticable throttle response yadda yadda yadda.

not really a issue, but noticed that it seems a little sluggish between 2nd and 3rd gear when shifting. maybe in a few other spots when i accelerate.

now, i didnt follow the directions completely as i didnt disconnect the neg battery terminal. so not sure if something needed to be reset and that is the reasoning for doing so, but will do it tonight just to rule that out.

anything else that it could be?

everythign else is stock. so no aftermarket exhaust or chip tuning.

maybe that nasty K&N oil is on you MAF ,if over oiled it will foul the MAF and you may need to clean the MAF with some eletrical parts cleaner . if you want to see just how great that K&N filters ,do an oil analis and see how much dirt (silicats) get past it and in your oil . all you get from a K&N is a louder sound ,you are far better off with the stock setup . you don't have to beleive me ,check it out your self .

so after paying attention on the way home from work.

it is at the low end of 2nd gear that it feels sluggish.
once it get into the higher rpms, no problems.

as for staying with OEM intake.. ehh everyone has a opinion.
i have been reading this forum for a few months now, and noticed alot of people must like the sound from the CAI systems.....

i didnt oil the filter at all. just opened it up and slapped it in. came in a sealed bag in the kit.

i did pull the neg terminal on the battery, so ill see later if it resets the computer to learn about my CAI ( as the manual says for the CAI)

so i appreciate the fast responses to my question, but neither really helps me figure out what might possibly be the cause.

i dont really care what someone results are for a engine that i dont, nor will i install in my H2. the turbo.. maybe at some point, but i will cross that road when i get there.

now im not saying his info is not accurate.. how the hell would i know.. but what i read was all on a duramax engine. i didnt see anythign in there for the 6.0L engine in a H2. all it states really is if your pushing under 400/450 HP, there is little to no gains with a CAI. thats as close as it got to my setup.

i would be more interested in what the results are if it was the engine and setup that i have in my H2.. not what my setup would be with 30k installed.

so.. any thoughts on why the low end of 2nd gear would feel sluggish after a CAI is installed?

I's start by puting the old air filter setup in there and see if it makes a difference. The oil on the MAF sensor from those filters has happened to quite a few owners. You may want to get a Superchips programmer (that's the one I use) and see if you can pull codes. FWIW- The programmer really wakes that engine up. ...more than the air intake. If you switch back to the stock setup and still have it, leave the stock setup on while ot goes to the dealer. If you are in warranty, they will tell you it's teh oiled filter's fault and that MAF sensor isn;t cheap.

From your description, I've always felt that way about all of my past H2's. Maybe you're jsut noticing it more since you are hearing more of the intake/ engine sound. That's why I put the programmer on, you can firm up the shift pointsm raise the rev limiter, and improve driveability.

Outside of that, that's about all I can add for now. If you get the programmer and can pull a DTC, I can help a little more.

If it's not oil on the MAF, disconnecting the battery and then driving it for awhile helps it to a re-learn. That should probably do it.

you can also have retarded timeing due to the knock sensor detecting ping, filling your gas tank will reset it . you can pull the ECM fuse while the key is on (engine not running) than pull key out and put fuse back and that will clear all also.
