GM Extended Warranty
I am in the process of finalizing a deal with Huber Hummer for a 2007 H3 (photos and "the rest of the story" will be shortcomming), but I am wondering if I should get the GM Major Guard warranty. Also, how do I negotiate oil changes and the like for the life of the vehicle? I am getting a damn good deal as it is.

Re: GM Extended Warranty
Lifetime oil changes, I never heard of such a thing.
Maybe oil changes with a lease.

Re: GM Extended Warranty
I read a thread...
http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...=h3+warranties
where RHYD mentioned it. It's worth a try! Any ideas on the Major Guard though?

if after a dozen NO's, them maybe ask AGAIN !!!!

Re: GM Extended Warranty
I am thinking against the Major Guard but might get it later on. I'm just trying to cover all bases before finalizing the loan.
The dealer has various incentives for oil changes, but the dealer is approximately 200 miles away in Omaha, which would be an easy drive nonetheless and the g/f is from Omaha!

Bill,
200 miles seems like nothing today but what about in 4 months, what if you have a real bad cold, what if g/f is having morning sickness...
Figure the dealers best deal (example: 2 oil change/filter/lube/etc/etc for 5 years including a loaner) calculate the retail value at todays prices of the freebees and then instead have him deduct that off your best price ...
Say the value of all that is $1000, he deducts that and your not locked into him for service (200 miles away)
now if he says no he can't deduct that much discount your offer by 15% (extra $850) just don't cave in ..have him give you some additional incentive.

Re: GM Extended Warranty
I'd kind of like to get some type of extended coverage, maybe not the warranty, but something like the Goodwrench Care or Smart Care packages. The "freebies" the dealer offers are - first oil change, car wash on every service visit, and free tire rotations. Now I'm sure I can change my own oil, wash the vehicle, and have the tires rotated for a minimal cost!!
It would be nice though to have more a "warm and fuzzy" feeling with freebies and the like after purchasing a new vehicle (post sale), but everything up to this point was excellent and very professional (from Huber Hummer in Omaha).

Re: GM Extended Warranty
If you are considering a GM warranty, purchase it from another state to avoid state sales taxes (at least most states tax it, maybe not all). Also, there are some GM dealers who will discount the heck out of the extended warranties. One is Ken Fichtner Chevrolet in Montana (Corvetteforum). The other is Bean in one of the Carolinas.

The GM warranty is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Because I have that warranty, I'm treated like a king at our Hummer dealership. Remember, if you sell before it's up, you get refunded the unused, prorated portion. I've heard bad stories of how people are treated with third party warranties. I've never heard even a snivel from GM, I've had their top notch extended warranty on numerous vehicles. My wife had a very expensive third party warranty on a Dodge she had when we got married, it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. They had excuses for everything and they were extremely creative in trying to figure out how to make it your problem, not theirs.
The only oil change thing I've personally been involved in is when we had the Mini Cooper S. I don't believe GM does that. That's a minor expense and a gimmick to get people hooked.

Re: GM Extended Warranty
Doesn't the '07 come withe 4yr/50K Bumper to Bumper and 5yr/100K Powertrain? My '06 has 4yr/50K and I keep receivng flyers from GM for the extended warranty for 4yr/72K. The price is $1,800. For an additional 22K, I'll keep my money. What does the extended warranty look like for the '07?

When I bought my Blazer ZR2 a few years back, I bought the 3rd party warranty. When I read it, the 4wd section didn't seem to cover electronic t-cases. So I asked the guy and he said it's covered, but get the electronics protection to be sure.
Well, not a month later, the encoder motor locks up in 4-hi. I take it in, thinking I'm covered, but the warranty company won't pay up. It wasn't listed under the 4x4 or electronics covered parts
I don't know who finally paid for it, but it wasn't me. I raised hell with the sales and finance managers for selling me a 4x4 warranty that didn't cover my truck, and somebody took care of the bill.
