$12000 paint job?
I found this posted in Las Vegas Craigslist:

Someone has more money than good taste.

Re: $12000 paint job?
Being in the bodyshop business for almost 30 years and doing a lot of high end paint jobs. (our last ?good? job was painting Rick Hendrick?s ?63 split window Corvette... it wanted the true color in lacquer and it cost me 2250 for a gallon and a quarter of silver lacquer... probably the last gallon of that color in the US)
Anyway, I?ll believe he spent $12K on a paintjob, unfortunately, as the old saying goes... ?just because you have money doesn?t mean you have class?.
That is just ugly for 12K.

Ya Mark is right, If you don't spend at least 10K on a complete color change paint job, the person is doing it wrong...

Re: $12000 paint job?
as i own my own bodyshop and have painted for years here in oklahoma, if you think you can charge min of 10k for a color change... you wont have a single car there! no way, people wont pay that here no matter how much time is involved in it. maybe in cali or somewhere like that but here in ok. a complete color change depending on vehicles of course, starts at 4k on average. just because its not 10k does not mean its not being done "right". it means people wont pay that in this part of the country.

You said the key word "in this part of the country". I've been in the bodyshop business just shy of 30 years and in the last 15 years, I have never gotten paid less than 4500 for an all over. (no color change... that's 1000-1500 more)
Doing a color change on an H2 on top of it?? No way I'd touch that for under $10K. Last year I painted 2 H2's, one job was $9500 for an all over and the other was $11K.
No one said that you weren't doing it right for under $10K but if you are, you're either in a economically depressed part of the country or you're not charging enough.
Either way suits me, I'll paint them all day long for $10K.

Re: $12000 paint job?
and i agree being and h2 i wouldnt do it less than 6k for a color change.. i do complete jobs no color change with little to no bodywork starting at $3500. just an idea of how things work here. unfortunatly people just dont understand how much work goes into one much less a perfect or near perfect paint job.

Unfortunately, people don't understand what goes into it nor do half of them appreciate the final product. As long as it's shiny and one color, they're happy.

Re: $12000 paint job?
I drove 3.5 hours to have Orange Crush do paint work on my H2, cause I wanted it done right. Almost every body shop in my area were painting cars behind blue tarps and not in spray booths and would just mask everything off instead of removing trim. Mark you should open a shop in the Raleigh area too, we need a good shop here.

Re: $12000 paint job?
I agree most people have no clue what goes unto it. As
For not painting in a booth comment.... No car has to be shot in a booth to make it a great job done... A booth makes it easier on the painter, it has no effect on the end results if the person cares and knows what they r doing to begin with. The only thing a booth does is gives you s clean environment and removes the fumes. Some have baking units that help in drying as well. In the end product you can achieve just as good as results without a booth. Booth saves time which means money in this business.

You make a great analogy. Now if the white were deep blue instead my wife could deal with that. She would slap some Broncos logos on it and been ready for a tailgate party.
