Default Sunroof Problem??

Just today, when I closed my sunroof, it didn't want to close all the way. I stopped prolly 3/4 of the way. I backed in open again, then closed.... and it stopped again???? Nothing is on the track, so I tried to help it close and that worked. Anyone else have this problem???? Is the switch going bad or motor starting to wear??

It is binding.. Have dealer re-align

Has the dealer done any previous work on it before? They tend to get out of alignment mostly after they have been worked on

Nope... never did any work on it at all. Is there anything I can do myself? Or, is it a dealer thing?

The dealer will screw you blind, find an aftermarket sunroof installer (ASC) and they will fix it for less .

Thats why I'd rather not take it to the dealer. But, thanks for the info. I'll try using a aftermarket guy.....

My experience would seem to back up this statement. My sunroof stopped closing all the way a couple of months after purchasing my H2 from the original owner. Looking up at the sunroof while it was closing it was apparent that the left side was slightly lagging behind the right side causing it to bind. A very light assist with my hand on the left side and the sunroof would close with no problems.

I called the dealership that the former owner had been taking the H2 to for maintenance. The service manager ran the VIN and told me the sunroof motor had been replaced 14 months prior. My '05 H2 was/is out of warranty and the warranty on the sunroof motor expired after one year. All the stealership offered was for me to bring it in and for a $100.00 fee (non refundable) they would diagnose the problem and give me an estimate for repairs. If I accepted the estimate the $100.00 would be applied towards the final bill. Arguing with the service manager that the work they performed installing the new sunroof motor was most likely the reason the sunroof was out of adjustment got me nowhere.

I have the factory service manual and it does not show any procedure for adjusting the sunroof. It only shows how to R&R the entire sunroof assembly.

I still to this day "manually assist" the sunroof when I close it.

If a new vehicle comes in to a dealership with no sunroof and the customer wants one the dealer sends it out to an aftermarket sunroof shop marks it up 20 to 30 % and charges the customer .they do not cut the roof and install it at the dealership .they always send it out .

I've been using the two hand close method for over a year now. Owning two bodyshops, I'm accustomed to taking interiors apart. I started pulling the system out of the truck but honestly, other than I can see where it's got some play in the rails (which allows the slide on each side to bow and put the sunroof in a bind) I can't see how to adjust it.

I hadn't thought about taking it to an aftermarket sunroof place but perhaps it may be worth it.

The only way to buy new tracking is to get it with the motor. ($1600 bucks)

**** that, I'll use two hands...

(I'm use to using two hands anyway.... )

If any of ya'll take or have taken it to an aftermarket sunroof place, let me know... I'm curious.

Mark

you can get a top of the line sunroof installed for $1200.00 ,why would you pay $1600.00 for a motor and tracks ?
