water leak

Well, It rained hard this Sunday and I had water on my dashboard assuming this was from the new gasket that was set from glass company. So called glass company to come out and reseal. Well, stupid of me, when the glass installer was suspecious and inspected, the water was coming in from the roof cablights. There are no insulation or no gasket between the cablights and the roof. Does anyone had this problem? Is there a gasket that can be purchased?

Do a search on the forum, I know I've read about this in the past, but I cannot recall what the fix was.

if you installed them, clear caulk is quick and cheap....if they are factory/dealer installed take it back and have them take care of the water leak as well....

Do you have a sun roof

If you have a sun roof I was told by GM tech that the drain hoses inside the window frame get blocked then start to leak on to the dash they need to be kept clean.

Where on the dash was the leak? I had my entire window replaced due to the glass company stating that the window put in it previously was not a true fit. So....$300 later I now have a whole new window. I probably just got taken for a fool...

What was pooled on the top of the flat spot on the passenger side. Also, some of the water was trickering for the overhead console home link button and lights.

I went home and poured litle bit of water around the cab lights with the overhead console taken off. Sure enough, water just runs right through the cablight and trickers down.....

I am going to take out the front center three cab lights and plug them with flush rubber plugs and black RTV it since I do not like the cablights in front

Im glad you had this problem, No offense I'm having the same issue and it has just happened on an off for the past month and it is coming out of the home link area. That small hole there acts like a little drain, Damn thing! Now I know what to do to fix it.

Remember- anytime you have your windshield replaced, tell the glass company NOT to use the lower factory glass positioners or else you'll end up with a long horizontal crack weeks or months down the road.

There is a TSB for this but I don't recall the number off hand, print a copy and give it to them to save a lot of hassle later.

Are you referring to a crack in the windshield itself, or in the sealing? Thanks for the info...Jamie

Well, I have RTV'ed the cab lights but I am going to remove all three amber center cablights. I have found flat button plugs for all three lights. I will be removing and sealing them. I will post a pic when I am done.
Two sizes are needed to plug. 3/8" (6) and 1-1/4" (3) and clear RTV.

The windshield itself will develop a horizontal crack that begins at the stress riser created by the factory glass positioners. Here's the old post from Klaus 2/7/2004:

This bulletin is being issued to advise dealers regarding correct replacement of the windshield.

After removing the windshield, there will be two plastic blocks visible along the lower edge of the windshield opening, each located near the windshield wiper arm transmission spline. These blocks are assembly aids used only when installing the windshield at the plant. They must stay in place so as not to open a hole where they mount. However, upon installation of a replacement windshield, care must be taken to assure that the glass does not come in contact with the blocks.

After applying the urethane and positioning the windshield, leaving an air gap (3) of 1 mm (0.040 in) between the block (4) and the windshield (2) , compress the urethane only as much as necessary. This will assure that the glass does not come into contact with the blocks. If contact is made with the block, body flexing may cause the replacement windshield to crack. Cracks along the bottom of the glass are an indication that the glass is contacting the blocks.

Tape (1) the windshield in place. Do not remove the tape until the adhesive cures.

Important
When subletting a windshield replacement, provide a copy of this bulletin to the persons involved in the replacement.
