Default Tranny engagement???'s

Recently purchased my first H2....2004 w/ only 29k miles.....JUST TO PREFACE THIS QUESTION/Response session, I WANT ALL TO KNOW I HAVE NOT CHECKED ANYTHING YET....so, anyways....I noticed on a 200 mile trip going up and down minor hills on interstate...when in cruise, it downshifted a lot more than I figured it would, but shifted fine.....my major question here though is, after cruising the town, I notice that when I pull into the driveway then after sitting idleing, when I go to leave again, putting it in reverse it seems to take a second to engage into gear, rather than immediatly, and the same goes for then after pulling onto the street and putting it into drive from reverse, it takes a second to engage and also gives a little clunk if on a bit of an incline....NORMAL OR NOT???? I do know from reading some search lists on this that GM is notorious for some yoke slippage/play....maybe this is it?? any answers are much appreciated!!

Hell I hope it is NORMAL cause ours does the same thing too.

Mine was doing the same thing...then I did the full tranny flush.

A little clunk into gear is normal. Remember in each diff you have gear lash(play) then in the t-case also gear lash. Once again there is gear lash in the transmission. When put into gear the lash has to be taken up in all components which will relate to a clunk. When you shift from park to rev, rev to drive or any other shift, modules need time to communicate and hydraulic fluid has to be re-directed in the valve body so you dont gat an immediate engagement into gear. All your symptoms are very normal, no worries

Oh, to answer you question technically yes it does make a clunk noise and engagement is delayed up to 1 to 2 seconds in relationship to the shifter
to the drive shaft thingy, dohicky, mabob @#$(**&%.

In other words do not try to burn older list members and learn to say
thank you.
Now I know why the older members do not answer questions from the
newest ones.

If u take offense to my simple innocent statement of "I was hoping to get an answer from one of the techie's on here, but nothing yet>>>"

I feel for your wife....sorry bro....it was not intended to PO anybody on here....I'm just trying to get some info....thanks
