08 h2 manual navigation install
Hey guys. I have an 08 h2 that I'd like to have navigation built in, instead of always bringing my hand held garmin. But I'd like it to still work with all the steering wheel buttons and backup camera. Is it possible to have the backup camera show on both the mirror slide out screen that I already have and the navigation screen? Also what is the OEM brand navigation for 2008+ hummers, and what will I need to get everything to work? Has anybody done one of these installs in a 2008 or newer / have a link to a thread? My lease is up in a little over a year so I'd like to be able to take it out and use it in another car or sell it. Is there a better than OEM aftermarket one that will still work with my steering wheel buttons and backup camera? Thanks!

Re: 08 h2 manual navigation install
Hello:
I know you cannot do the back up camera to both Factory NAV and pop out from rear window mirror using factory parts, unless you splice the cable and add additional wires. Once you modify the cable, you would have to replace it once the lease is up.
Something like what you are trying to do is better using after market products, but still the cable will have to be modified.
Hope this helps.

Re: 08 h2 manual navigation install
I have a wireless backup cam from JC Whitney on my H2. You're supposed to wire it to the hot reverse wire, but I didn't and can turn on the screen and look behind at any time and then just turn it off if the picture is distracting me.. It's nice for keeping an eye on a trailer when I'm towing something. This one installs to the bottom of the license plate and took me 30 minutes to install.

Re: 08 h2 manual navigation install
That kenwood dnx9140 looks pretty good. Do you have one? Does the backup camera have full screen or is it only on half screen? The steering wheel controls will work , do you need an adapter? Is it compatible with xm radio already in my 08 h2? Any other questions I'm missing? I wanna buy it if its the best

Re: 08 h2 manual navigation install
Hi, how did the installation go? How do you like it? Are the control switch on the steering works even the rear dvd? I want to do this exact same project on my 08 H2. Debating to install the OEM navi or this Kenwood DNX9140.

Re: 08 h2 manual navigation install
Ok so the new navigation is the bomb! Installation was over $800 total. The actual installation of just the navigation was under $300, but then you have to buy a steering wheel adapater (so your steering wheel controls work), XM adapter, adapter this and adapter that. So in total it was over $2,100 but its well worth it and still cheaper than the crappy OEM one and when I get rid of this hummer I'll just remove the navigation and put back in the stock radio and put it in another car! I dont know if it'll work with the OEM rear dvd as I dont have that I have a 20" aftermarket tv and dvd in the rear.
heres some pics of the navigation:
Below pic of a home made DVD music video. Alot more fun than just regular music.
Below while seeing the navigation it also shows the song title or station your on and can click on it to switch to the song, and it'll show what street your on on the bottom bar.
Below you can see all the features it has.
Below is the built in backup camera feature (camera not included I used the OEM hummer one)
Since we tied into the OEM hummer backup camera, I now have two backup cameras instead of just the small one up top by the mirror. The bigger screen on the navigation is much better mostly because its bigger but having the smaller one that pops out of the mirror is good too because your eyes are looking right in that direction when your looking in your rear view mirror. Also later on I can buy a cheap camera on ebay and have 2 different backup camrea views if I want.

Re: 08 h2 manual navigation install
Thanks for the great info, that looks better than the OEM one. I just made my decisions, goin' to get one of this. Question, did you use the original GPS module? and if you don't mind, can you list all the adapter that i will be needing for the installation. Thanks again.

I used the GPS module that comes with the kenwood navigation, its garmin. I'm not sure all the adapaters but I know for sure you'll need the steering wheel controls, and XM adapter. I also think you need a dash adapter so it'll fit perfectly to your specific dash. The company installing it for you will know everything else. This kenwood flagship navigation (their best they make) is like $1300 online where the OEM hummer one is $2695 I think plus installation for either, so its a good deal.
