Default Tech II substitute

hey everyone. i've been wanting to get a tech 2 for a while now but they are just too damn expensive, over $3000. I heard that there is pc software that is almost or is as capable as the tech 2. Does anyone have any experiece with this software and can anyone recommend one? it would be awsome if i could use a laptop instead of a tech 2.

thanks!

As far as reading/logging engine parameters and clearing engine codes - yes. HPTuners also lets you reprogram the PCM. HPTuners cannot connect to the BCM or other modules like the tech 2.
