Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
Has anyone ever relocated the drivers seat mounting position?
I dont know who designed the H2, but the placement of the drivers seat is a joke. The seat, fully retracted back on the tracks, is still extremely close to the steering wheel. I drive with the steering wheel in my lap and my arm bent quite a bit even though I am completely back on the tracks. What is even funnier is that the seat can go forward on its tracks til it actually touches the steering wheel.
WHO THE HELL NEEDS TO SIT THAT CLOSE!!
So I am thinking about re-locating the mounting points of the drivers seat and wondering if anyone has any pointers for me. I am thinking roughly 6-8 inches back. I know that the seat is sitting on a raised area, but I am wondering if the perch is duplicated (possibly weld in or bolt in a piece of metal the same height to hold up the seat), is there anything else that may need considerations.

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
I think yours may be overextended, Although they don't go back very far, there plenty comfortable for me at 6'2
I don't think mine goes that forward, but mine it getting warranty work done, so I don't have it to check.

Yeah...that doesn't sound right. Mine won't got that far forward either.

So is there a way to check to see if over extended?

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
Just an FYI ... you can cut the small plastic ring off from the bottom of the worm gear (screw). This allows you to recline your front seats all the way.
Here is the Mod Thread:

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
Thanks NJ H2, but this isnt about the reclining of the seat. This is about the seat position forward or rear in the cab of the H2.
Basically, my seat is in the furthest most position away from the front of the car and yet it is still really close.
I am sure there was a reason for allowing the seat to only go back on the tracks so far, but at the cost of the drivers comfort?
Does anyone know if there is a manual way to make the seat go all the way back on the tracks? I am wondering if there is something in the electronics that is keeping my seat so close to the front of the cab.

Hmm, I haven't thoroughly checked but not seeing in shop manual.
Both the passenger side and driver side should be able to go back the same difference, what's the difference between them when fully back?

Also have you searched the internet, it's probably going to be similar to all the GMT800 platforms.

Maybe a midget drove your truck last, are there rope marks on the back of the brake pedal?

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
Welp!
I did it.
After months of complaining about it, and a few posts asking what you guys think or what might be wrong with my seat....
I finally worked on a setup to relocate the driver seats back further and up a little which gives me ALOT!!!! more adjustability.
After taking some 1 inch square tube, cut it up and welded it together, drilling holes in it, painting it, then bolting it to the stock points of the rear of the seat, and then drilling 2 new front mounting points in the floor and welding in structure supports to those.....
I now have a seat that will go up and down as high as I want, and forward and backwards as much as I want.
Driving the thing is a whole new experience.

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
I would love a little more room to go back, but my kids need some leg room. Anyone ever move the rear seat back 6-12"

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
Not sure it is possible
If I remember there is "hump" between the rear seat and the back cargo/ 3rd seat area.
I moved my front seat back with my rail extending jig and even with the seat almost all the way back, my daughters friend (who is about 5'6" - 5'10") fit behind me. Of course, if he really stretched out his legs I could feel him pushing a little into the back of my seat, but I figure "hey unless there is 3 people sitting back there, it isnt that big of a deal for me to be comfy"

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
I wouldn't mind shorting the steering column 3" either.

Re: Re-locate the drivers seat mount??
Given, shortening the steering column seems a bit more drastic then moving the seat back.
But .... Yeah, I agree. SOMETHING should have been done at the factory.
Just seems like the H2 was extremely well planned.
Kinda like my 2006 Tundra. The a/c vent was positioned poorly. When the truck was put in drive, the column shifter was right in front of the vent...... so in the summer times that shifter got really cold blocking all the a/c and in the winter it got really hot blocking the heat.
My solution... I cut the stalk down, pulled the wires and reattached the end piece with all the controls on it.
