Hummer Friends,
I know most of you who did the rack went with Gobi. Do any of you haul, skis, snowboards, mountain bikes and general toys and gear? If so how did you mount this stuff?
I'm thinking some good old plate steel with my thule or yakima fork mounts. As far as skis/snowboards, thinking about a plastic coffin on one side of the Gobi. But again how do I mount to the Gobi?
I've got the rear tire mounted rearside, but as many have you mentioned, sure is a pain in the ass to get into the back of the vehicle. Thinking of getting the beasty tire up top. Problem is, I need access to the BACK of the rack and need to mount the tire near the front. Do I need to fab up a mounting system for the 150 lb 37 inch beasty tire?
Any experience and advice anyone could provide would be much appreciated. If no one has anything, I may just flounder around and let you know what damage I can do. I'm pretty mean with a drill bit and a hacksaw.
p.s. DRTY, any posts about "mounting toys" should go straight to the woodshed.

any way you can utilize your front hitch reciever? Unless it's obstructing you visual driving, a front hitch bike rack or even a front mounted platform will do nicely.

Well, you can throw on a set of low roder Yakima towers and bars. that will work for bikes and skis... if you have room for the garage if you park in one.
the tire really needs to be supported with a back plate. GOBI does have an option for that on the stealth rack or the fullsize that has the cut out in the rear.
It really depends on which style you want. Let me know of any specific Q's you have on the racks.

Good suggestion Dennis, but I'm afraid it would block my vision to much. That's just a lot crap in front. I looked @ that just yesterday and figured with 2-4 bikes up there, it would be just in the way.

I have one like this. I imagine it fits the same up front. Wouldn't look so bad either if it was packed right.

I'm thinking about getting the Gobi stealth. Is there any special trick to putting gas cans on it -- -- do you need any special support for the weight?
Thanks,
George SSSS

Hey DennisAJC,
What is the name of your rear rack on that big 'ol suburban? Where did you buy it? I need something like that to haul garbage cans up and down my 1/3 mile steep road.
How's the weather up there in Burnaby? I suppose you look forward to skiing up at Whistler when you can really show the H2's prowess off? I used to do a fair bit of skiing up there myself but drove a Porsche from Vancouver up hwy 99.
thanks,
Greenhummer

It's called a hitch buddy by Hidden Hitch.
It's bloody hot here. Melting.
Going up to Whistler in the H2 is a nightmare on those winding roads but awsome places to go wheelin. You definitely have more fun driving the porsche up there.
If you're in the area, drop me a PM, I'll buy you a beer or ten. Mabye do some mall posing in the H2s .
