Re: Painting ABS and Billet Chrome
Sell the chrome hood handles and buy the black powder coated ones. You'll probably save some money.

Re: Painting ABS and Billet Chrome
Well , just decided to "go for it" and got the handles painted today. Palm sanded them for about a half hour, then used Rustolium primer, then Rustolium flat enamal. There curing in the oven right now (120 degrees) Not sure how they will hold up but it was fun playin around with my truck today. Worst case, Ill use them for catfish sinkers. The side marker covers wont be in till thurs. See ya,,,

Re: Painting ABS and Billet Chrome
My wife loves it when I cure paint in her oven. And she really enjoyed the time I washed some auto parts in the dishwasher (worked great, by the way)!

Sound like you have it sorted.
Dupli-Color makes a paint adhesion promoter that is good for painting over chrome. It is like a clear primer that sticks to slick surfaces like chrome, plastic, etc. Next, prime and paint. You should be able to find at places like Western Auto, Advance Auto Parts, etc. Here is some more info: 1 and 2.
Dupont makes a promoter as well. It's a two part mix: 615 and 616. Apply then use a zinc phosphate type primer.
If the chrome is pitted you need to remove it before painting. You can sandblast or dip it in acid, e.g., muriatic or sulfuric. Most of us won't have this issue. However, if you do, you might not want to do this in your wife's kitchen.
