Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
(tried search... no luck)
What do I have to buy (and where) to enable daytime running lights on a 98 H1?
I thought there was a module that you could add on but now, a couple of years later, I can't remember the site.
Thanks
Shawn

Re: Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
I think I might have found it...
This is what AM General added to a 1998 HUMMER H1 to meet the Canadian requirements for Daytime Running Lights (DRL):
Qty. 1 AMG p/n 6002919 Jumper-DRL
Qty. 1 AMG p/n 6002626 Harness-DRL
Qty. 1 AMG p/n 6002625 Module-DRL (no longer available)
The 3 parts should run around $100. USD
Does anyone know where I can get the 6002625 part if it isn't available from AMG?
Thanks
Shawn

Re: Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
My local Hummer dealer is having problems sourcing the parts....
Does anyone know of another solution ? I need to come up with one fast because I only have 45 days from when I import the truck into Canada to have them up and running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Shawn

Re: Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
Go to Canadian Tire and the module costs $25 for daylight running lights. My H1 mechanic put it on for me since he was doing the safety and I was running out of time as well. I also had mine imported so I know what you may be going through!

you wouldn't happen to know another way to discribe it to the guys at Canadian Tire would you? I actually started with them because I was told the exact same thing to start this off but when I went there, nobody knew what I was talking about and they didn't know of any possible solutions.
Thanks!

Seeing that Canadian Tire is the only licenced facility to do out of country inspection(why I have no idea) they should know what A daytime running light module is, if not they shouldn't be doing the inspections.

They seem to know what a daytime running module would do in theory but they dont seem to know what part to buy to make it work.
The guys at part source had a module that I bought tonight but I notice that it wants you to get a feed off of a spark plug wire (I assume to see if the engine is running).... how do you work around that on a diesel? (this is my first diesel)
Thx

Re: Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
Spark plug wire? I doubt it. Maybe an ignition feed? which would be A 12v supply with key in on position. Ignition power. Not battery power which is A 12v feed all the time. Or go to your gm dealer and give them this parts number 12370445. Just went and got that from our parts dept.

I checked and it is using the spark plug wire to determine if the engine is actually running. the lights wont come on with just the key being in the run position, then need to know the engine is functioning. (apparently)
How would I do that with diesel? Or a work around.

Re: Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
The module you mentioned using the spark plug is the right one. CTC sells them. I bought one but returned it when my mechanic was going to do it for me since he also did the safety. I'll have a look under the dash and see what he wired up. Funny thing is that now it seemed to stop working. As long as you pass the inspection then it doesn't matter.

Re: Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
Never seen one like that, but ive only ever installed the AC Delco module on diesels. If it requires A spark signal it just plain ol wont work on A diesel. Call A gm dealer or an AC delco parts store with the part number above and that will work for ya.

White - White going to headlight switch
Fused Red - Yellow (hanging down)

Re: Daytime running lights on a 98 H1...
I forgot to mention...
Dave from BlueHummer was able to source the oem daytime running light parts for me. Here is the list of parts AMG used to add the DRL to the US Hummers...
AMG Part - 6010839 - Jumper DRL Batt Power
AMG Part - 6002626 - Harness Asm-Daytime Run
AMG Part - 6010837 - Jumper Asm. GCC/DRL Ign
AMG Part - 6010841 - Jumper Asm. DRL Brk Fl
AMG Part - 5745365 - Module,Daytime Running
I am expecting mine to arrive any day now and am hoping that they are easy to figure out. I understand they don't come with instructions so finding out where they go could be interesting.
If anyone has a doc on these parts and their installation, that would be very handy.
Thanks
Shawn
