Hummer: Please Please Please Give Us a Manual Trans in the H3 Alpha!!!
I am hearing rumors that the H3 Alpha will have a 5.3L V8. PLEASE put a manual transmission, preferrably a 6-speed, in the H3 Alpha. Follow the Corvette group's lead with the Z06. Currently, GM doesn't have any SUVs with manual transmissions with any performance. GM needs something to be competitive from an acceleration standpoint with the manual trans versions of the Xterra and FJ Cruiser, both of which do 0-60 in the 7's. It is also an opportunity for Hummer to get itself on the map with the only V8 powered SUV in the US with a manual transmission. Hummer would have the entire market to itself!
How about it Hummer?

call me crazy but i don't think they had 0-60 times in mind when they designed the h3 or any other hummer for that matter... a v8 would be cool though.

I'll chime in with the same feelings as the original poster.
Please give us the option of a manual transmission with a
large engine (and beefy power train) -- Wonderful combination!
I have another GM product with this combination --
A Pontiac Firebird Formula with 5.7L LT1 engine
and Borg-Warner T56 6-speed transmission. It's great.
I'd be happy to reward GM engineers for their good work
with another purchase.

I hope they offer it too. Not that I would get the manual trans but it would be a nice option. I don't think they would bother doing it just to corner that market though because it wouldn't be a big market at all. These are SUVs and not sports cars let alone the fact that Hummers in particular are basically just bricks with wheels.

Re: Hummer: Please Please Please Give Us a Manual Trans in the H3 Alpha!!!
I would get it (an H3 Alpha or H4 with big engine and manual transmission).
I have an H3 with automatic now, and it would be awesome to have one of each -- an automatic for cruising and a manual for the fun and control of shifting (not just going fast). Maybe the manual could be the more "rough" truck that gets dirty more often...
Excellent how both the H3 and the Toyota FJ Cruiser are currently available with manual transmissions. Any others in this class? Not the LR3 or Touareg... Jeep Liberty I suppose -- I think I drove a Liberty with 6-speed but the transmission didn't feel as beefy as the 5-speed in the H3.

i wouldn't consider any of them to be in the hummer's class considering their prices and the fact that maybe one percent will ever touch anything tougher than some fresh mud at the stables it's a shame really, the lr3 has potential and the touareg has a mighty strong diesel.
but to compliment your post, it is cool that they would even offer a manny on the h3 and fj cruiser.

The Jeep Wrangler and Unlimited packages currently offer a 6-spd manual. They're not really in the same class, but the 2007 Jeep JK Wrangler will continue to offer a 6-spd manual. And the 4-door Rubicon will definitely be in the H3's class.
A few years ago when the Blazer ZR2 was discontinued and the 4runner and Explorer got larger, I thought the era of the midsize 4x4 was over. You could either go small with a Jeep or go extra large with a Hummer, Land Cruiser, Tahoe or Suburban. There wasn't much in between unless you wanted a Liberty or a Grand Vitara or could pay for a Land Rover/Range Rover . It's sure nice to have some real mid-size choices again.
